Feeling a bit camera shy

Claire Ripley was born on a small island in Kent, England. From her early teens she would spend hours listening to artists like The Shamen, Massive Attack, Underworld, Sasha and Digweed, always searching for a sound unlike the kind of music popular in her hometown.

Obsessed with underground dance music and a desire to experience something different, Claire began weekly pilgrimages to London clubs like Club UK, Fabric, Turnmills, Hanover Grand and The End, as well as numerous trips to Ibiza. After ten years dedication to house and techno and finding inspiration from a number of legendary DJs and producers, she decided to ask her friend Richard Belsom to teach her everything he knew about djing and producing music.

After a year of dedicated study she experienced immediate success with her first demo and productions being given DJ Mag Top Pick, describing her work as “very impressive stuff“. Previous DJ sets have included playing at London clubs such as The Key, The Aquarium, Babalou and Hidden as well as a local residencies for Phobic, the night to accompany the label run by Claire and Richard Belsom.

Claire describes her sound as ranging from laid back deep hypnotic beats through to acid riffs with driving basslines. During her DJ sets she likes to showcase the finest underground music ranging from deep house, tech house, minimal and techno.

In October 2009 Claire was signed to Steve Bugs highly respected Dessous Recordings and has just signed her second e.p to the huge Highgrade Records of Germany.

Claire' first e.p (including a Gorge remix) reached number 3 in the deep house chart as well as a remix on the Dessous Classics series in December. The e.p was supported by Anja Schneider, Nick Curly, Brothers' Vibe, Sultan, Gregor Tresher, Gruber & Nürnberg, Italoboyz, Karotte, Martin Landsky, P.toile, Patrick Chardronnet, Anthony Collins, Osunlade
Sander Kleinenberg, Catz 'n Dogz, David Durango, Lee van Dowski, Audio Soul Project, James What, Chopstick, Danny Tenaglia, Paul Oakenfold, Alexi Delano, Bearweasel, Moodymanc, Simon Baker and Steve Lawler.

In addition to this Claire has recently signed her second e.p to Highgrade Records (Berlin), the label that launched the careers of Sebo K and Guido Schneider.

Claire is also head of Phobic Records with Richard Belsom. Artists on the roster include Ekkohaus (Moonharbour), Chris Lattner (Moonharbour, Fear of Flying), Inxec (Cocoon), Rebekah and Tim Green (TG).
