Bio

Classified, a four-piece Galway-based original rock band was formed from an advert placed in the classified section of a local newspaper by brothers Anthony and Stephen. The quartet, completed by bassist Jimi and drummer Seos, have already created quite a stir since taking their first serious steps into the music world in February 2007.

Despite having virtually no fan base at that time, in April 2007 the band did exceptionally well in a UK and Ireland internet voting-based song writing competition called Unsigned Heroes. They took great encouragement out of being selected ahead of thousands of more established acts and spent the following months writing new material. In September of that year they signed a non-exclusive deal with an American record label for the use of one of their songs on a compilation cd. Between November to March 2008, time was spent recording those songs that they felt most strongly about and they began to gig in Ireland during this time.

It is through the Internet, and Myspace in particular, that the band has built up its large international following. Fans of the band can be found all across Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas, and that has led to several interesting opportunities. Aside from international radio interviews and airplay, the band has been lucky enough to receive interest from important people in the music industry. In May 2008, Classified played three performances at the International Music Carnival in Century Park, Shanghai as special guests of Sunglow International Entertainment Limited. There, audiences could reach numbers of 9,000 people per day, a far cry from the small-capacity bar-based venues of Ireland.

Back at home, Classified intend to continue this domino effect with Irish audiences. With a view to record a debut album in 2009, the boys are focusing their energy on developing an Irish fan base and on furthering the relationship they have built up with fans overseas. Classified is a very entertaining and energetic live act and they continue to work on the performative aspect of that which they bring to the stage. A hard working band, they aim high and hit hard.

Only time will tell whether this band who call themselves “music’s greatest secret” can live up to that title. What is undeniable, however, is that if Classified keep progressing with the same impetus they have demonstrated to date, they won’t remain a secret for long.
