"G.M.A.D ( Good Music All Day) - Clay and Friends"

“Today’s Song of the Day (SotD) comes from the hip-hop artist Clay and his group of friends from Montreal, Canada. While the group has only been together for 6 months, Clay and Friends are definitely working toward a great style and sound that Clay like to describe as “organic hip-hop”, which is a great way to describe this EP. The EP features an intro and outro (the latter being in French), but the 4 main songs are hip-hop filled with influences from jazz, soul, and reggae making A Quest Called Jam III a representation of Montreal’s diversity and culture.[...] be sure to be on the watch for these international players” - G.M.A.D ( Good Music All Day)

"Elementality - Clay and Friends"

“ I’ve seen Clay and Friends perform live at two occasions, and I can say they are one of our city’s most exciting emerging bands. They redefine the idea of jamming by combining some dope old school rhymes by vocalist Clay and a energetically funky 3-musician ensemble with guitars (Samish and Clem) and beatbox rhythms (Aydell). Their energy is insane and here’s a video on top of Mount Royal that proves it. - Elementality

Bio

The idea of Clay and Friends formed backstage after a show during  a Freestyle session. Since then, we have become a bilingual collective that amalgamates the different styles of music (hip -hop , funk, jazz , soul, reggae) . Our sound comes from a particular blend of live performance ( beatbox, brass , piano, guitar, bass, vocalist ) with an electronic facet ( sampling, mpc , scratching ) . The core sound of this group comes from Clays Mcing and Aydells beatbox , while the melodies and harmonies are put together by Samish and Clement on guitar and Pascal on the Bass .

The ideals of simplicity and instinct are very present in this organic project in the sense that, the musicians  can feed off the energy of the crowd and exploit new paths to for each performance through spontaneity.

In November 2013, the group released its first EP : A Quest Called Jam III . Within the ideology of hip- hop, where the past is used to form the present, this project is a reflection of the cultural and musical diversity of the group insofar as it presents a collection of several musical styles and cultural backgrounds under the same title.
