Lyrics

Craftsman

Written By: Clayton Sabine

I'm a craftsman by trade
a maker of glass
my tool is the fire

I work all alone
in a shop by the house
I've got the radio for company

At the end of the day
when I close up the shop
I'll go in for a drink
and I'll lie in the dark
I'll turn on the news
but I'll leave the sound off
and slowly I'll close my eyes
but I can still see the fire

A few times a year
I suffer a burn
but never a bad one
it's just a part of the job
in this kind of work
you have to stay focused

Now there's crosses and crescents
all across my TV
and there's pictures of sand dunes
that roll like the sea
and my mind's drifting off
at three thousand degrees
to a world that flashes and melts
and silently sparkles

A fulgurite sits
on a shelf in the showroom
glass made from lightening
I'm sure I don't know
but if there is a God
he's one hell of a craftsman

Just The Right Thing

Written By: Clayton Sabine

Some folks say that there's no such thing as right and wrong.
It's just a myth perpetuated for the sake of law.
It must be wrong these love affairs with the heartache that they bring
But I'll be damned if sometimes, you don't say, just the right thing.
I see you tripping, stumbling, falling, trying to move on.
You say to me, "I must deserve this, but what did I do wrong?"
I follow you with no reserve, like the summer follows spring. And I'll be damned if sometimes you don't say just the right thing.
Why can't I just be happy when you look at me that way. My hands start slipping on the wheel, and I don't know what to say. I've been dodging every sight of love like a fighter in the ring. I'll be damned if sometimes you don't say just the right thing.
