Clayton Weed:
A unique voice with catchy, quirky and cutting songs for the world.

Songwriting is at the root of Weed's talent. It’s the glue that ties everything else together. He has been writing and performing his own music for over 30 years and has developed an extensive original song catalog that incorporates a wide variety of styles and feels. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Weed is the son of an architect and a schoolteacher. A singer/songwriter, producer, recording engineer, Weed is a past winner of the Billboard Achievement Award and a provincial finalist in the Budweiser Search for Talent. He began playing and writing music by the age of twelve and his earliest mentor was the father of his good friend John, Dr. Henry Blackburn, a well known heart researcher and brilliant soprano sax and clarinet player. Blackburn hosted frequent house party concerts for visiting jazz musician dignitaries from around the world where Clayton was introduced to jazz and blues. Eventually, Weed learned to play the guitar more extensively from the late Dave “Snaker” Ray, of Koerner, Ray and Glover fame and later on from Sean Blackburn (no relation), a well known Twin Cities entertainer.

In high school Weed began to pursue the art of songwriting with Ted Unseth, another local icon and leader of the Wolverines Orchestra, who ran a songwriting and poetry program through the public school system. Shortly after graduating high school, he moved to New Orleans where friends of the family ran the world famous Preservation Hall, a funky jazz concert hall in the heart of The French Quarter. Soon Weed was engrossed in the New Orleans music scene and began cutting his musical teeth on Louisiana's rich musical tapestry. He learned how to play everything from to New Orleans Jazz to cajun music and country blues and New Orleans R&B. All the while he continued to write songs and gradually became interested in country music after obtaining a copy of Hank Williams greatest hits. Eventually he broadened his style even further with stints in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, San Francisco and more recently Vancouver, British Columbia where he now resides. A former performing product specialist for Mackie, Digitech and dbx, Weed is a graduate of the Entertainment Management Program from The Vancouver Film School. Recently, he co-produced a country roots studio album 'Clayton Weed' with Bill Buckingham, a legendary Vancouver producer that features a roster of top Vancouver talent and additional session players from the US.
