http://www.kildare-nationalist.ie/news/story.asp?j=17844

LAST Friday night a local metal band, Clergy, who are said to be the best thing
to come out of Newbridge, rocked the Riverbank.

The band consists of four guys, Gary Regan, Barney, Keith Coffey and Paul
Hughes, from Naas ,Newbridge and dublin. There are, alot of good rock and metal bands in
existence around the county who come to theRiverbank to show their goods but
Clergy did more than just belt out a few songs.

Fans described them as being powerful and energetic onstage, andI would have to agree.
Even though this type of music is relatively new to me I could recognise what
set Clergy apart from others. They were not only excellent musicians and great
at what they did but they had something else, a certain presence or factor which made you
think you were watching a famous band who had been experts at this for their whole
lives, not just for the past couple of years.

Clergy emerged for the first timein 2001, as four guys looking for a bit of fun,
little did they know what was in store.

They have a style, which originates from the metal genre of music but is considered
more original and new than the music of other metal bands.

This may be the reason these four lads were selected to tour the states.
Last Wednesday Clergy hit Americas shores in the hope of spreading their new wave of
Irish metal around clubs and colleges in New York and other major cities.

Clergy will be taking a giant step towards where they have always wanted
to go andliving the dreams of millions by playing along side some of the biggest rock
stars in the world, Korn and Linken Park.

Clergy have already gigged in top venues like Temple Bar and the Voodoo Lounge
and supported huge metal acts like Machine Head. Clergy feel it s important to make
new music, and be Clergy not a copy. So all four contribute to writing their own music.

Clergy have two CDs on sale, nursery Crimes and Live On The Judas cradle,
which is recorded live at the StrawberryFields in Glasgow - kildare nationalist

Bio

Clergy
Recently home from a self-funded East Coast American tour where they supported the mighty Fear Factory and ex House Of Pain frontman Everlast Clergy have been preparing plans for an all out assault on Irish audiences. During this thirty-day tour the band played some twenty plus shows including venues as prestigious as CBGBs, Don Hills and the Acme Underground in New York, The Webster Theatre in Hartford Connecticut and Fat Cats in Springfield Massachusetts. In each venue Clergy were described as a breath of fresh air and were told they would be welcome back any time that suited the band,
Clergy are no strangers to this hard work ethic however as recent history facts show, In the bands relatively short two year career they have created a quite impressive CV having previously sent themselves to the U.K. on a self financed stint.
Back home where they have opened for U.S. metal giants Machine Head in The Ambassador Theatre Dublin they have played countless numbers of live shows and are gaining a lot of ground along the way. Clergy also claimed first place in Hot Press Magazines demo dip and received an excellent review in both Metal Hammer Magazine. (UK) and ISH Magazine (Eire).
Clergy’s music is comprised of a mixture of full on hardcore elements twinned with moments of trippy atmospheric fusion and pure raw nineties alternative grit. Naturally the band have influences though they are so wide and varied that the music does not seem seeped in already worn out riffs and styles thus giving the band a unique edge.
