Bio

Cliff Dill

Cliff Dill was born to the guitar, and has always kept it close. Drawn at a young age to the tone of legendary players from the roots of blues and rock, he was almost immediately able to make six strings sing. He has worked hard, and learned to not just play the guitar, but bring its sound forth to the world.

A student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Cliff is playing with the best and the brightest of his generation, and finding himself right at home. But it was a long road that brought him to Boston, and not an easy one. First he had to overcome the doubts that haunt every guitar player, through a lot of playing and putting himself out there.

Cliff has been encouraged along the road by teachers and other players. One of his teachers from New Jersey is now his teacher at Berklee, Chris Buono. He also has had master classes with Derek Trucks, John Scofield, and Bill Frisell. Cliff is also currently honing his slide skills with the slide wiz David Tronzo.

One day in October 2006 he was paid the ultimate compliment when Phil Lesh, bassist for the Grateful Dead, called him to say he was a finalist for Phil Lesh University.

The opportunity to play with Phil will come, but there are many other stops along the way, playing rock, blues, country and the jam music that flows from his hands. Inspirations like Trey Anastasio, Jimmy Herring, Derek Trucks, Dickey Betts and others keep Cliff constantly searching for a new way to make the sound in his head.

Count it off and drop him in, Cliff is ready to run wherever that sound is leading him.
