Australian artist cln has remixed Odesza’s "Say My Name (ft. Zyra)" as part of the current Odesza remix contest. This remix manages to showcase something unique and new without straying too far from the original.
Following up his highly acclaimed debut EP Sideways, the young producer has already created an identifiable sound with his intoxicatingly smooth melodies and downtempo rhythms. While Odesza create full, sweeping musical atmospheres, the beauty in cln’s remix is more singular – it’s more stripped back, allowing you to find strength within each individual layer. The rhythm is solid and slightly delayed, and you can get into a pretty special groove, especially with the deep, rumbling bass that balances out the soundscape.
There's a stronger focus on synth-based sounds and tampered vocal loops in this track, giving off a more futuristic, spacey vibe. Zyra's original vocals haven't really changed, though, and I’m happy with that. Her heavenly sound still rings through, allowing her gorgeous lilt to remain a point of focus throughout the track. - Indie Shuffle
Callan Alexander (cln) is an upcoming producer from a country you can probably guess by now (Australia), and though he’s a relatively small-sized following at the moment, he stands to gain several new fans with his latest single, “Better Than”, that’s taken from his forthcoming Sideways EP. The track’s a strictly electronic agenda, employing the services of several beating synths, modulated vocal loops, and thick-sounding percussion to show what enticing atmosphere we can expect to see on the upcoming body of work. It’s undeniably Flume-esque, “Better Than” is, and though its only the seventh entry in Alexander’s catalog, it’s a maturity to it that’s rare to see in an 18-year-old still tinkering with his sonic identity. Needless to say, we’re looking forward to Sideways, and after listening to “Better Than” below, we think you’ll be as well. - HillyDilly
18-year old Brisbane bedroom producer, Callan Alexander (aka cln), has a marvellously unique ability to craft smooth, melodic paths from agitated, sharp-edged components. Following on from his debut single, "Better Than", which rose all the way to the top spot of Internet chart aggregator, Hype Machine, he's just released his debut EP, Sideways, available now via iTunes. - See more at: http://rollingstoneaus.com/music/post/five-for-friday-yes-im-leaving-karen-o-cln-1-dads-martyr-privates/378#sthash.yctVK11C.dpuf - Rolling Stone Australia
