“We weren’t trying to create any completely ‘new sound.’ We just wanted to see if we could write songs that people would like and that would in some way stand up to the incredible variety and quality of music we all grew up listening to.”
Close Call was formed in Washington DC in the fall of 2007 by four young musicians. The band’s roots and origin had a typical “garage” beginning, playing music and practicing in family basements. The band’s earliest performances consisted of cover songs by such diverse influences as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, U2, R.E.M., the Gin Blossoms, Collective Soul, Tom Petty, Santana and Cream. Within six months, the band was writing and arranging its own original music, which has been performed live at a number of local venues. The sound of the band respects its classic rock influences — from the Beatles to Bob Dylan to Bruce — while attempting to create, define and capture the sound and sensibility of rock music for another generation.
Close Call has released its first EP “Way Out” produced by Mark Williams at Suckerpunch Studios in Bethesda, Maryland. It is available for download on Itunes.
In addition, another five song EP will be released in a few weeks and full length album by this time next year.
