"Music: Chad McMonagle"

With the help of Emily Tan from @BTCpromotions on twitter Fire & Ice was given the great opportunity to get the scoop from Chad McMonagle on his time with Cloud Nine and Run Romeo Run.

McMonagle first launched onto the music seen in Calgary at the age of 13. He joined Run Romeo Run as their lead guitarist at fifteen after spending a year playing rhythm guitar across Western Canada. With Run Romeo Run he composed his first pop-punk single “Lockdown”.

We are thrilled for the chance to get to know this rising star.

F&I: Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

Chad: nothing specifically inspires me. I tend get inspired by everything and everyone.
F&I : What is the funniest story you remember with the band?

Chad: My funniest story would have to be when I traveled to Toronto with Run Romeo Run to showcase at Canadian Music Week 2012… we got in to some trouble. Let’s just say it involved stripping and being questioned while remaining naked… it was all jokes in the end, and nothing serious happened. Every time I look back at it, I can’t help but to laugh. I think that every band has a long list of “funny stories” that are meant to be kept between them. I could probably write a book FILLED with stories that would have you laughing for weeks, but we would most likely get in a lot of trouble lol.

F&I: What are you currently working on?

Chad: Currently, I am working on writing new Cloud Nine songs as well working hard with the Romeo boys to write an EP. Cloud Nine’s first single “Over & Out” releases on January 1st as well as a music video! The single can be purchased on iTunes, as well as all of the Romeo songs! 2013 is going to a brand new musical journey for me. I really want to make this year count and get as much done as I can. I’d like to hit the road with Run Romeo Run and try to film another music video if we can get the funds. I’d also like to have a few more Cloud Nine demo’s complete. I always enjoy working with new producers, so that I can keep exploring the sound and see what I am really capable. Different writers and producers bring out different aspects of your writing and really push you to your full potential. This year is going to be excited and filled with new challenges and goals. I hope to make it my most successful and busy year yet!

F&I: What should your fans know about you that they don’t already?

Chad: Most of our fans are my age and they don’t even realize it. I’ve been making music since I was 12 years old and playing in front of crowds. I have always been the youngest person out of everyone and a lot of the time it can extremely hard and frustrating. Being in a band with guys 5-10 years older than you is like having 4 older brothers enter your life half way through your teen years. You can imagine it being a challenge especially during those “wonderful” years. I haven’t admitted in the past, but many times I approach situations the wrong way, and react immaturely Luckily, in the end, the guys understand that I’m young and are always there for me. I am finally graduating high school this year, so I’m pretty excited for 2013. I hope fans can get a chance to relate to the challenges of being a “young” musician. Being “that” kid with the long hair, the tight jeans and the piercings. It wasn’t always easy, but as the yeas went by, I was able to find out who my true friends were. I picked up many sports along the way, so I had to find a balance between music and sports. I was the captain of the 2012 senior varsity volleyball team and we won cities, took it all the way to provincials!

F&I: What should people take away your story?

Chad: I hope people see that you don’t have to be an adult to find success in the music world. I am proud to say that I’ve been to Toronto and showcased at the 2012 Canadian Music Week or that I have worked hard with Run Romeo Run and won 2 radio contests, and had our singles played on multiple radio stations. The strange thing is, I’ve never really taken music lessons and I think that is where I find my creative writing ability, or maybe it comes from day 1 when I was born, watching my Dad sit at the kitchen table, strumming away at his guitar all these years. However it happened, I am thankful that I have music in my life and I have a group of guys that I can share the same passion with.

We are very thankful for the chance to talk to Chad McMonagle. We sure will be keeping an eye on him. How about you?

Bio

Cloud Nine was created by Run Romeo Run members Chad McMonagle and Elijah Budwill. The two talented musicians decided to break away from their pop-punk sound and move to full on Pop. This has been an exciting move for the young duo. Combining their talents, Chad composed the music and the two worked their magic together for the lyrics. In addition to Chad and Elijah’s writing skills, their first single “Over and Out” was produced by Colton Peters from Hey Bombshell, one quarter of Canada’s hot new boy band. The three have managed to create a real dance feel to Cloud Nine’s first single. Because of their combined knowledge they were able to add strong harmonies and guitar to give it a more musical dance feel rather than filling “Over and Out” with straight digital mixes.
Chad McMonagle first became heavily involved in the Calgary music scene at the age of thirteen. By fourteen he joined Run Romeo Run and began touring western Canada and at fifteen composed his first pop-punk single “Lockdown”. He travelled to Toronto for the 2012 Canadian Music Week to showcase with his band mates at age sixteen. Chad has the talent and the knowledge to have a promising future in the international music scene. His ability to compose, write and perform will have fans and the music industry talking about him for years to come.
Elijah Budwill has experience in performing all kinds of music. The years he spent at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York gave him knowledge and experience in performing. Elijah went on to star in the hit musical “Bye Bye Birdy”, landing the lead role of Conrad Birdy. After his tour across Canada and The United States he went on to star in the world famous musical “Oklahoma” before joining Run Romeo Run as lead singer.
Together Chad and Elijah have created something special in Cloud Nine and will soon be topping the charts around the world. The exciting sound, catchy lyrics will have people hitting the dance floor and screaming for more.
