COACH TRIPP

God Bless our message as we hope to reach who we can…….

Brandon Tripp has performed under the alias Coach Tripp since 2006. ’06 marked a year of transition in which Brandon was forced to find himself. The Coach attended and graduated from Greenville College (Greenville, IL) that year. Greenville College is a Christian Liberal Arts College and provides an opportunity and challenges its students to seek, find or grow in their spirituality before they graduate.

Brandon Tripp was born and raised in Chicago, IL. Raised primarily by his mother, who like many single parents, spent very little time with Brandon as she often worked more than 1 job just to provide for the family. Brandon grew up to be a product of his environment. He soon took to music as he was inspired by his older cousin who was gunned down at a party as a teenager. In high school, Brandon had written over 50 songs that he never had the opportunity to record. He would often compete and fare well in local talent shows in his community.

In 2002, Brandon and his mom took a road trip to visit Greenville College. Brandon was being recruited there for Track & Field. During his tour, He fell in love with GC when he saw the music studios. He was told he could have unlimited access to the studios and that’s all he needed to hear! Later in ’02, Brandon had hooked up with a football and track teammate Terrance Poe. Word had traveled around campus about their talents and they were introduced to a guitarist named Josh Rocha. They were encouraged to participate in Battle of the Bands to try to win a record deal with Black Room Records. The group was only together 2 days and didn’t even have a name before the contest and tied for 1st Place. With that victory they had earned the record deal with BRR. Urban Derivatives had taken the campus by storm.

In 2004, Brandon began to look at life a little different. The culture of Greenville was beginning to have an impact on his spirit, so his music followed. As Urban Derivatives was a mainstream secular band, issues arose over creative content as Brandon’s lyrics began to shift toward more spiritual messages. That year Urban Derivatives broke up after a semi-successful 3 albums.

In 2006, Coach Tripp had arrived. Brandon recorded his first Christian Rap Album as a solo artist entitled Who Am I? Coach Tripp mass distributed the album in his hometown Chicago. Creating a small buzz and allowing him to book a few local shows at small venues. Coach later performed a benefit concert for “Heal the World” which solidified his mark and confidence as a Christian Artist. Coach Tripp remained underground and recorded his second solo album in 2008 entitled The Dedication.

In 2010, Coach Tripp has returned to the studio to complete his 3rd solo album “The Dedication II” expected to release in March of 2011. Fueled by faith, the life and the message of Jesus Christ, Coach Tripp is prepared to deliver the Gospel with a unique hip hop delivery over hard hitting beats, hoping to reach the faithful and doubters alike.

Ephesians 6:11 has been his new-found motivation hence his album’s first single “Armored Up”.
