"Video of the Week"

"A killer track is obviously prerequisite #1 for any good music video, and in this case, Cocky Americans do their part and beyond with a killer guitar riff and hard-to-forget lyrics." - Earth to Josh

"35 Conferette: Radio UTD Handpicks the Best Local Acts"

The clean-cut and stylized rock songs of Cocky Americans makes for some great listening, with the vocals sounding like a slightly more morose Julian Casablancas on top of polished guitar hooks. - RadioUTD

""If The Black Keys slapping The Strokes made a sound.""

"If The Black Keys slapping The Strokes made a sound." - BLARE Magazine

"9 Local Acts Worth Seeing at 35 Conferette"

Dallas' Cocky Americans combines pop sensibilities with some grunge aspects, while managing to keep a very polished sound. Basically: You know the band is good when they draw comparisons to The Strokes. And, yes, I'm comparing them to The Strokes. - Dallas Observer

"show review"

"Next up was The Cocky Americans, a 4 piece with an upbeat, versatile, sound. Drew kept the rhythm and reverb heavy on his Les Paul (give 'Mary' a listen), Brett and Dusty swapped guitar and bass through the night to take turns with lead and beat, and Patrick pushed the sound along admirably on drums. While each member of then band had some stand out moments, no one instrument dominated the sound; everything blended and balanced nicely behind Brett's wavering lyrics ('My crashing, my burning, is inevitable. But that's what the early twenties are for. That's what young and stupid is for.'). The crowd clearly hadn't neglected to notice that The Cavern is in fact a bar, and took these lyrics to heart. Inhibitions were out the window as people danced and threw their arms in the air (or, lacking the balance for such feats, stumbled into their neighbors good-naturedly). There was a definite party atmosphere, and the crowd really got into the Cocky American's music." - theforeverwall blog

"Good Friday DC9 blog"

"Cocky Americans will blow you away with melody." - Dallas Observer

"Review of show with Little Joy, The Dead Trees"

"The (Cocky Americans) vocalist was an apparent disciple of Julian Casablancas, the band was able to pique the interest of the audience, a task where most opening acts fail miserably." - Dallas Observer

"mydentonmusic.com show review"

"This band seems to have all of the right ingredients already in the pot to make something really great."

"Strawn's vocals are deep and poignant, and the rest of the band follows in suit. They have a tremendous amount of talent." - mydentonmusic.com / pegasusnews.com

"Review of show with Bart Davenport, Nervous Curtains"

"Cocky Americans were up first, and these guys were fantastic. 4-man band: 3 guitars and drums. not the kind of stuff i usually get into - definitely very guitar-intensive, sometimes with a smoldering bluesy southern-rock groove, sometimes more Strokes-like, sometimes with a Doors vibe (but maybe only because Brett's vocal style (which i really dug) reminded me of Morrison sometimes) - but i loved it. very talented musicians, very polished performance, will definitely try to catch them again soon." - Adventures in Live Music blog

Discography

Debut EP "Sharp Tongue" was released on June 2011. It was recorded at The Echo Lab in Argyle, Texas, engineered by the great Matt Pence (Centro-Matic), mixed by band member Drew Yeargan and mastered in Chicago by Carl Saff. Thus far, 3 songs appearing on this upcoming release have been showcased on KDGE 102.1 in Dallas. Multiple songs from this upcoming release have also showcased on Denton radio station KNTU 88.1 show Infrequent Exposure and several other places I can't recall at the moment.

Bio

BLARE Magazine, Toronto recently described the Cocky Americans sound as "The Black Keys slapping The Strokes."

Our Dallas-based band Cocky Americans creates sincere, very dynamic music with strong melodies. We like for our songs to really go somewhere and there is a strong push and pull in our songs that keeps the music from getting stagnant. We trust our instincts and have faith in our writing process and we feel like the results stand on their own.

We share a DIY ethic and we don't have a publicist. We rely on word of mouth to gain fans and make friends and allies one at a time and our efforts are paying off and we are picking up a lot of momentum now. Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way! We'll keep pushing forward and we're excited to see what else is around the corner. Being in a band is fun for us.
