"Back Seat Mafia"

This great laid back groove, with simple beats underpinning an amazing acoustic bass line and sultry, soulful vocals is the second single from Cocoa Jackson Lane, Fall on the Floor. An eclectic mix of people, the band – Jess Harlen on guitars and vocals, Camilla Charlesworth on bass, synths and vocals, and drummer Pat Tuariki hail from as far and wide as Aotearoa, the South Pacific, South East Asia and Barcelona, and draw on their Maori and Indonesian heritage and make gorgeous songs with a 808 pulse. - Back Seat Mafia

"Soul Bounce"

The name Cocoa Jackson Lane might not be familiar to you now, but once you press play on "Fall On My Floor" their sounds will wrap around you like a comforting hug from an old friend. Whether it's the luscious vocals that pull you in or the heavy bass line, one thing for sure is that this new project featuring New Zealand vocalist Jess Harlen and bassist Camilla Charlesworth is creating some serious heat. "Fall On The Floor" sees the talented duo exploring a sound they call tropical soul, which is a spot-on definition for "Fall On My Floor," which evokes feelings of summertime's warmth while maintaining a head-nodding groove that hits you in your core. Once you get hypnotized by "Fall On the Floor," head over to Bandcamp to grab your copy. - Soul Bounce

"Behind The Front"

Cocoa Jackson Lane is comprised of esteemed singer/songwriter Jess Harlen and multi-instrumentalist Camilla Charlesworth most notably recognized for her skilful aptitude on the bass guitar. Those familiar with Jess Harlen know her cultural background is Maori (NZ), living in in Melbourne. Meanwhile, Camilla Charlesworth is of Indonesian heritage, born in Adelaide, traversing Sydney and Melbourne. Over the last three years, both women have spent half the year in Boston and the other gigging in Australia.

With their nomadic lifestyle in tow, COCOA JACKSON LANE are now setting their sights firmly on New York City for a crack at this unpredictable music industry. Equipped with their first Psychedelic Soul influenced EP released 14th of January, new musical sensibilities, knowledge, and amplified dreams, Cocoa Jackson Lane are ready to Rock N’ Roll. Two people in search of souls. - Behind The Front

"Curve Mag"

Cocoa Jackson Lane is a welcomed collaboration between vocalist Jess Harlen and bassist Camilla Charlesworth. Both hailing from Australia, the single was written on the road and recorded in their Boston apartment. With a melding of multi-dimensions and blurring of cultures, thanks to their diverse Maori and Indonesian heritages, this duo has created a solid meld of funk and urban tones.

“Fall On My Floor” itself grooves with an underlying 70’s rock/funk, which at first is so cool that it almost transports you back to that era. However, the listener is thrust into a modern disco era sound that is haunting, thanks to the interplay between Harlen’s smoky vocals and Charlesworth’s hip and heavy bass. Surprisingly the synthesized, and at times almost atonal sound, punctuated throughout with a powerful 808 pulse, provides the track with an added layer and depth and you are left wanting more from Cocoa Jackson Lane. This is single two from the upcoming EP and if this track is any indication of what’s to come, we are in for a real treat. - Curve Mag

Still working on that hot first release.

Cocoa Jackson Lane is the indie rock project of Camilla Charlesworth and Jess Harlen who perform live with their 4 piece band. Named after a lane way named after a boxing champion, the Melbourne-based band create a psychedelic soundscape drawing on pop and faded rock records. The unabashed duo energize their free and easy studio sound to a body-rocking, hands up in the air, live show experience. Fans have expressed the sensation of the show as "taking my heat and lifting it up to the moon!"

Growing up in Australia whilst keeping strong connections with their Indonesian and Maori heritage, the sounds of their tropical homelands swirl throughout their particular offering of indie rock.
Signed to Native Tongue Publishing, CJL are currently producing their Debut EP Flying Colours whilst also working with a plethora of other artists in studio and on tour (Tina Arena, The Veronicas, Kid Radio etc). Camilla is also currently completely a full scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music which sees the pair in Boston for several months a year, where they write and record on the outskirts of the Fenway stadium.
