"Overtone"

Coda could well be from another Universe…Borrowing a house beat from Goldfish and an ubuntu (translation: black sound) from Freshly Ground, Coda is, quite simply, the hottest new act to hit the stage since the latter – - Online

"CODA Clamour"

CODA is just so hot right now…You simply cannot think about having a party without at least trying to sign them up for the evening’s entertainment…CODA is the city’s most in-demand band. - CAPE ARGUS, 6 DEC 2006

Bio

Coda represents a fresh new wave of contemporary South African music that combines the irresistible beats of SA dance music with scintillating electric strings, saxophone and exhilarating live sampling.

Considered one of the country’s most successful fusion bands, Coda is a unique collaboration between electric cellist Carol Thorns, saxophonist Judy Brown, vocalist Yolanda Yawa and DJ Nick Matthews. Their popularity has been cemented since the release of their debut album, Believe, with several tracks being playlisted by radio stations throughout the country

Their virtuoso repertoire showcases the skill and talent of the performers and draws on influences of several dance-orientated styles of music including House and Kwaito, as well as the more ambient sounds associated with Buddha Bar and Café Del Mar.

Described as the busiest band piece in the country, Coda split their time between gigs in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town and has performed as far a field as the Seychelles and Dubai. The band has entertained some of the country’s most eminent celebrities, business people and politicians (including Mandela), and their music has been known to get the likes of Desmond Tutu and FW de Klerk onto the dance floor.
