Bio
The Codish/Hughes/Dunlap Detroit Organ Trio sound is based on the traditional Hammond Organ jazz pioneered by Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff and Charles Earland. Guitarist Perry Hughes is a living legend who has performed with many of the great B3 masters as well Earl Klugh, Bob James, and Aretha Franklin. He captures the eloquence of Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Grant Green through his nimbly played hollow body jazz guitar. He is also an adjunct professor of jazz guitar studies at Michigan State University. Drummer Gene Dunlap has performed with Grant Green, Earl Klugh, and Roy Ayers. He recorded three solo albums for Capitol records and continues an active schedule as a producer, performer, and educator. Organist Chris Codishs has led Detroit based funk/jazz group The Brothers Groove, Produced and performed on Johnnie Bassetts latest CD and toured with a multitude of artists in many styles including Hiram Bullock, Alexander Zonjic, and Lucky Peterson, and has received over 30 Detroit Music Awards. The group creates a swinging groove that keeps toes tapping and a soulful jazz sound that goes straight to the heart.
