Siam

Written By: Cody Jackson

Siam

The mighty whack of a thunderhead crack
And memories that hovered
Came flooding back to this amnesiac-
Siam, my own true lover.

But how to return?
For I’m afraid I’ve unlearned
Both scenic route and shortcut.
To make matters worse, it is Sunday of course
The door to every port shut.

Siam, your impossible bridges
Lift up from villages seaside
Toward Cliffside Enchanters
Whose rice-paper lanterns
Flicker and scarlet the blue nights.

By sail or steam
Or sleek submarine?
Which vessel would be quicker?
But should I submerge,
I’m afraid I would surge
The ticking of my ticker.

So, I patched this heart
Using umbrella parts.
I am a rainproof lover.
But watertight equals absence of light-
Siam, the darkness smothers.

By freighted train,
Or diesel bi-plane?
Yes, the skyway would be faster.
But should I find myself
In the asteroid belt,
‘Twould be a space disaster.

Siam, your dragons of clockwork
Tic-toc the night with their ruby eyes.
They nosedive the tourists
Who swear they’re the purest
Emerald illusions that fly.

So, I blasted off
As an albatross-
I chose the way of feathers.
But two days gone
And I could not go on,
Through such gales and stormy weather.

Siam, this man still loves you-
Dreaming of you every other night.
And the nights inbetween
I am planning and scheming,
Dreaming up new ways to find you.

In a downtown nook
I just chanced upon a book-
Your name in faded umber.
I traced the map-
It seems the only way back
To Siam, is by way of slumber.

Counterclockwise

Written By: Cody Jackson

When first recognized you,
My vision was very poor.
And at my age recollecting names is such a chore.
I went to pour the Brandy,
You said ginger-ale is fine.
You see at my age latitude and longitude entwine.

Well, that’s fine cause our graceful years
Are thankfully behind.
We’ll grow young together
in this land where sunsets rise
Counterclockwise.

So glad that we’re together,
Our candle’s growing tall,
And the pine tree has shed its knots
And is daily growing small.

I hear the rooster crowing,
Must be suppertime-
Well, remind me to fall forward
‘Cause it’s daylight savings time-

Or is it time for yesterday
Which could be Valentine’s?
We’ll unwind together
In this world where sunsets rise
Counterclockwise.

The golden years were plenty,
And silver had its charm-
But what a crime it was to die without you
Being in my arms.

So now it’s goodbye to medication,
The strokes have all been struck!
Goodbye you hip-replacement,
It’s back to beginners luck!

We’ll spend our nights and evenings
Deconstructing rhymes.
Clear the page so there’s plenty of room
To un-surmise,
Counterclockwise.

We’ll keep rewinding
‘Till before we reached the Earth.
We’ll share the joy of birth together-
And my love by then,
We’ll be Clockwise again.
