From the beginning, Cogent's goal was to write music that was both unique and beautiful. There has always been something to be said for a 3 piece band who could hold their own, and these three have done just that. The name Cogent was picked to describe how they wanted their music to feel: forceful and persuasive.
Cogent began with three friends who would get together during high school and jam out to various bands like U2, MxPx, Metallica, Underoath, and Ben Folds. Sound like a wierd mix? Well it is! And that is what has inspired these three as they began to create their own music. Fast forward 6 years or so... Matt and Ted both moved back from college, and with Dave's willingness to drive 6 hours from PA to practice, Cogent was born. Now it is 2007, and they have almost two years and dozens of shows behind them.
An EP is in the works, and, having shared the stage with bands such as Hundred Year Storm, Palaris, Fly Upright Kite, and more, Cogent is ready to begin aggressively pursuing more shows in order to continue building their fan base.
