"Colab: The Rue to Music"

Think of a pot of bubbling rue, now add all of your favorite ingredients, a little seasoning, and last but not least good old crab to put this gumbo right over the top. Mmmm so good you can’t wait for that first taste. Lower Greenville has experienced this taste many times over, though not through the delicious taste of food, but an eclectic blend of sound, a gumbo of a musically inclined group who simply goes by the name of Colab.

With many friends doing different things in music, the founding members Jay T and Evan decided that the collaboration and mixtures of sounds would make this band timeless. This was six years ago. Colab is still playing strong. Nine core group members, which includes a vocalist Ms. Lady Bee, and DJ Edgar Blue, who engages the audience with his original old school sound. No mp3’s on his table, strictly vinyl.

They come with the funk, jazz, hip-hop, neo-soul, and blues, all rolled into one sound that some wish to call Rue Music. The group was recently nominated for the Dallas Observer best band award in the Funk and R & B category. You can jam to their gumbo style rue every Tuesday at the Zubar located at 2012 Greenville Ave. Dallas, Texas. Show time begins at 10:30pm.

Colab is almost done completing their first single, and expect for their first album to be completed mid 2012. Audiences and fans can’t seem to stop moving once the sticks hit the drums, and the guitar starts to strum, Lady Bee grabs the mic, and Edgar Blue makes it all right, to just enjoy the sound.

CoLab was formed when a weekly residency opened up at Zubar on Lowere Greenville in Dallas, Texas. Pulling from several loosely affiliated acts, such as Blunt Force Crew and Al Lyric and the Hell Yeahs, and other Dallas musician circles, CoLab became a collection of instrumentalists, MCs, and vocalists whose backgrounds and training are immensely diverse. We draw mainly from hip-hop, R&B, and rock influences but you never really know what is going to be thrown into the mix. Our sets are comprised of originals, drawn out groove-oriented jams, and carefully selected covers. We keep it about the music and having a good time.
