Colby Smith

Music has always played a large role in Colby’s life. Having a father with an extensive musical back round, and a passion for music, it was only natural for Colby to be influenced and intrigued by this. He was quick to jump into the music scene, wanting a bass guitar immediately. Saving every penny, doing odd jobs on the side, after several weeks, he emptied out his piggy bank and discovered he had only saved up $100. After begging his dad for a ride to the local music store, Colby impatiently picked out the first bass guitar in his price range and bought it…. A red 4-string Kasino bass. He quickly discovered bass guitar wasn’t as exciting as he thought, and quit. His Dad, disappointed, wasn’t surprised by his sudden disinterest, and ceased to push Colby to play an instrument. It wasn’t until a year or so later, that Colby discovered he could actually carry a tune. After numerous compliments about his voice (mainly his family, when he sang in the car), he wanted to pursue this hidden talent, and what goes better with a voice than a guitar? Again, he wanted this instrument right away. Luckily Christmas was only a few months away, so Colby impatiently waited until than to get his guitar. Unwrapping the gift and instantly playing it, it only felt natural. He promptly went to his room, and spent hours at a time learning songs from the internet. Surprised by his sudden interest, Colby’s Father taught him several songs…one being “Tears in Heaven”. Once he learned some basic chords and strumming/picking patterns, he tried to master the art of singing and playing at the same time. It took some practice, and some earplugs for his family, before he got it down, but availed eventually. He started writing songs several months after he picked up the guitar, throwing most of his first songs away, but slowly created songs that stuck with him, finding inspiration in various things. Recording in his fathers music room, he threw down rough copies of 10 original works. After tweaking, changing, rearranging, and adding to those original songs, eventually they were worthy of being recorded professionally. Ten songs were brought into the studio and recorded with a full band, only two being acoustic. Despite the new feeling of being in the studio, the recording process went quit smoothly, and Colby’s first album, “Something For Wishing” is now in the works of reproduction, set to come out Early February 2005…
