"House of Blues Review"

Cold Water Mystic was brought to this editor's attention by our awesome contributing writer Kim Evans. Shortly after she did a review of Cold Water Mystic at the Kazzbar, I was invited to see the band play at the House of Blues in Chicago. I'll be honest, I had my reservations simply because after being sanitized by this dirty industry we call the music business, I didn't think they could possibly impress. Boy, was I wrong! CWM were part of a local band showcase that night, and by far put on the most intense and energetic set. Not only was their slot the most enjoyable, but they had the biggest following, the best response and were the most cohesive. Picture 311 onstage with Sublime, throw some Snoop Dogg and Lucky Boys Confusion in the mix and that is Cold Water Mystic. It's all about the party with CWM and if you can't move your feet to one of their songs, then simply have someone punch you in the nose. It's only a matter of time before these Brookfield boys really start turning some heads. Keep your eyes peeled for more on CWM very soon!

"Cooler By the Lake CD Review"

Cold Water Mystic is a first-rate party band, with the 14 tracks on Cooler By The Lake backing up this claim. It’s easy to forget that the reggae-infused rock isn’t coming from Long Beach or the Caribbean, but from landlocked Brookfield. The band nails the Sublime-light vibe throughout, even getting funky, a la Red Hot Chili Peppers, on “Tip Your Cup” and “Funk Yeah.” (www.myspace.com/coldwatermystic)

Bio

Hailing from Chicago, CWM has been bringing a fresh new sound to the Midwestern reggae scene since 2005. After 5 years and 2 critically-acclaimed LPs (“Last Call” in 2006 and “Cooler By The Lake” in 2008), the group has found inspiration with the addition of a new singer. The combination of soulful funk vocals with the band's decidedly aggressive rock-reggae vibe has transformed their already-explosive live show into a funky, punky reggae party.

Their resume is impressive - the band has shared the stage with groups such as Pepper/Passafire (Halloween ‘08 at Chicago’s Metro), SOJA, and John Brown’s Body. They’ve headlined the House of Blues, and played sets at legendary venues including The Rave (Milwaukee), Double Door, Martyr’s, and Fitzgeralds.

Most importantly, CWM are supporters of a movement towards original music. Songwriters are a dying breed. Electronic samples will never replace the riffs that Jimi, Jimmy, or Duane laid down. They aspire to carry on that tradition with every soulful, energetic, and skanky reggae groove.

Come spend the night with Coldwater Mystic. We promise you'll never remember your first time.
