Bio
Keeping musical
storytelling at the forefront, COLDWATER
ROAD is a five-piece folk band from Vancouver. Driven by country blood, the songs of
Coldwater Roads Patrick Spencer were born around
the campfire and seasoned on the seawalls of False Creek. Against the backdrop of the urban frontier, these are lyrical folk songs with
cowboy tendencies. Patrick
first assembled the group in early 2012 to prepare for a Music BC Demo
Grant. (recorded by Chris Michel at Hipposonic West), and quickly
thereafter, the group won Ceili's "Acoustic Battle of the Bands". Next, they were Semi Finalists in the "Voice of the Cellar" contest.
Missy Cross (vocals) and Patrick (vocals/guitar) had worked together in the theatre world, while Alex
Hauka (cello) and Ben Reichart (bass) were promptly wrangled through
the open-mic community. Steven Beddall, lead guitar for Whiskey Chief
and Wooden Horseman, was naturally added on the drums.
February 2013, they recorded an acoustic album, "Street Side". This past
summer saw their third tour in Alberta and BC, and before that was a Via
Rail train tour to Toronto and back, playing for the guests on board.
Most days, you can find them busking down on Granville Island. They are
partnering up with the Saint James Music Academy, helping to provide an
after school music program for low income families.
