Colie is the stage name of Fernando Melendez, a rapper, writer, poet and actor from Bridgeport, Connecticut who instantly became the voice of his city after his success with radio play in various cities and states. Events such as the Music Mansion poetry events continuously are being put together for several causes such as aids research, person to person foundation which helps feed and cloth hungry children. Melendez not only uses these events to break out artist but also to help those in needs. Melendez began his career as a writer/artist he says,” as an artist I always had too much to say from many point of views. I always knew I couldn’t sing so Id record my words on the beat and send it off so it could be recorded feeling sorry for whoever had to bare my voice until the song was memorized.” That mentality caused Melendez to be the only unsigned artist on The Wendy Williams Experience to have to songs from two different genres playing back to back to a descent period of time.
As a poet Melendez has accomplished much and it isn’t hard to tell that the buck won’t stop here. Performing from churches to the mosh pit he only has one goal and that to be the best and everything he does. “I began noticing my poetry converting over to my music and realized I was evolving, maturing which caused me to perfect my craft” He started performing in plays which helped open doors as he would end up being the music coordinator for a few of them such as The Church, Never Die Alone, One Hot Summer and The Voice of a Musicians Heart and also allowing fellow friends with the same interest to attend and showcase their talent as well." I remember the NY vs CT talent showcase (Feat. Ques who won out of NY and Ct's own Ace Boogie)
Melendez lives by the saying he will not lose, filled with ambition,determination and with a plan in hand to not just make music but to also bless the fans with words of encouragement, hope, street knowledge and life lessons.
