"City Stages 2007"

Colin Armstrong --
Remember his name as he awaits fame.

If Colin Armstrong returns to City Stages in a year or two, look for him to have a starting time much later than the 3:55 he had on Saturday. The Californian's pop numbers such as "Lost and Anonymous" and "Brand New Day" are radio friendly enough to earn him a more primo starting spot in Birmingham and elsewhere.

"Here is our own John"

At last an album that is listen-able from top to bottom. Colin's full voice and passionate delivery propel each song and ties the entire project together into one cohesive package. The music jumps out of the speakers with an old school approach to production that disappears into each song. Stand-outs for me are "Lost and Anonymous" and "Hey Yoko" -- Listen and judge for yourself. - Itunes

"Round Up of CD's from 2007"

There were quite a few releases in 2007 that we meant to share with our readers but, for one reason or another, we never got around to it. Here are some of the best of them.

"Lost and Anonymous"(A)
Colin Armstrong
(Rithmetic)

Although now living up in L.A. working whatever music biz connections he has, Colin Armstrong is a native San Diegan who relocated only a few months ago. What is apparently his debut CD arrived in the office last summer, and quickly grabbed our ears with its upbeat, melodically intoxicating power pop. We kept waiting for him to schedule a live show so we could interview him, but that never happened. Still, "Lost and Anonymous" has never moved far from our CD-ROM drive, and has made repeated visits to the active playlist in iTunes. Intelligent lyrics, strong singing voice, decadent melodies ---- it's adult pop for the young at heart, is what it is. If those L.A. connections work out, ear candy like "Touch," "Brand New Day" or "Same Old Story" may well end up all over your radio.

Bio

A native of San Diego, 26-year-old Colin Armstrong grew up in a musical family. “My dad is a great singer, not a pro, but great nonetheless.” Colin’s love of music evolved into learning how to play the bagpipes when he was 12 years old. By the time Colin was 15, he was touring Europe and competing internationally. Today, he is a world-class bagpiper. During his early college days, he played pipes with KORN and got a glimpse of the rock lifestyle meeting and hanging out with Billy Idol, Robbie Krieger of the Doors and Terry Reid who was originally slated to be the lead singer for Led Zeppelin. Colin instantly knew that music was his calling.
But as you can imagine, playing the pipes didn’t lend itself to being a rock star or jamming with his buddies to Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Clapton. So Colin taught himself to play the guitar and sing.
His desire to play songs with “hooks” that also had resonance led him to pursue his skills as a singer/songwriter. Colin's first break came when he won the "BE A STAR" contest on STAR 98.7. The victory landed him a development deal with Hollywood Records. Colin continued to write, record and hone his skills, gathering the best of the best material for his debut CD, “Lost and Anonymous.” Colin's song "Lonely Fall" won Best Male Vocal and Best Song at the LA Music Awards and "In Your Eyes" was also chosen for the finals of the 2007 American Idol Songwriter contest.
In addition to finishing his debut CD, Colin has also collaborated on songs with Suzie McNeil of RockStar INXS fame and A–list writer/producers Marti Frederiksen and Mikal Reid. Colin's dynamic vocals and honest lyrics have been compared to John Mayer, Tom Petty and Peter Gabriel. Colin is currently touring the US to support ”Lost and Anonymous.”
