"More than a little bit country"

‘‘Mind you, I can see that my
songs always had a country
orientation, and for a long time
I’ve been a big fan of American
session guitarist and now
producer Dan Huff, a brilliant
man right into country music.
‘‘Through him and the fact
that my wife Allyson has always
loved country music, I was able
to discover how diverse it is as a
music form, how challenging and
how creatively rewarding.
‘‘My style is developing. I’m
not traditionally twangy, but I am
really thinking about the way I
write and play and I believe the
album reflects that.’’
The yet-to-be-titled album
is the culmination of a career
that began playing venues in
country Victoria.
Moving to southeast Queensland,
Fox joined rock band JFDI
and supported headline artists
including Roxus, The Choirboys,
Screaming Jets, The Radiators,
Ian Moss and Suzi Quatro.
In 1999, he travelled to the
US, picking up songwriting inspiration
as he drove across the
country, before coming home
and relocating to Sydney.
More support gigs ensued for
performers such as Status Quo,
Deep Purple, Eric Burdon and
Rita Coolidge.
While tracks on the new
album reveal Fox to be very
much an artist in his own right, if
musical similarities must be
drawn, then the likes of Brad
Paisley, Tim McGraw, Toby
Keith and Australia’s own Keith
Urban would not be out of place.
‘‘I’ve incorporated my days of
rock and blended them into a
highly animated and energetic
country-rock style,’’ he says.
‘‘It’s melodic and tonnes of
fun to play and it has opened me
up to a whole range of instruments,
from lap steel to fiddle, as
well as new musical ideas.
‘‘Now it’s up to me and the
music to spread the word.’’

Bio

born in Warragul Victoria, Australia is a country lad through and through, he played piano and guitar from an early age, practicing guitar for 6 hours a day.

His career as a solo performer began in country Victoria, playing in all the country venues and soon after he became a favourite at many city venues.

Colin moved to warmer pastures in Queensland joining a rock band called J.F.D.I as their lead singer and supported such bands as Roxus, Choirboys, Screaming Jets, The Radiators, Ian Moss and Suzi Quatro.

In 1999 he traveled to Canada and the United States, driving over the Canadian border through the north of Montana to the south in Orlando through New Orleans, Memphis, and Nashville. The American Mid West inspired him and many songs were written from this journey. Upon his return to Australia he relocated to Sydney for more music opportunities.

Colin continued gaining recognition and supported international acts such as Status Quo, Deep Purple, Eric Burdon and Rita Coolidge. Status Quo was so impressed they asked him to support them again on their 2000 tour.

Colin has taken his country rock music to the next stage and is a much sort after and regular performer at Australia’s Country Music Festivals. His influences include American country greats such as Tim Mc Graw, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Dwight Yoakam, and rock guitar legends Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eddie Van Halen.

Colin concentrates on writing country rock material and often collaborates with Producer Michael Flanders and Chase Flanders in songwriting. Colin has just finished recording his first album with Michael in professional studios. The final product is world class and includes some of Australia’s finest country rock musicians on fiddle, mandolin, lap steel and harmonica. The album will be released in early 2006 and Colin’s first single “Looking for You” is a duet with fellow country singer Colin Finley.

Colin now resides in South East Queensland, Australia on an acre with a small recording studio where he writes and records his demos at home in the quiet surroundings of the bush, when not co writing with others.

Colin is well known for his vigorous guitar playing, his diverse vocal ability and connecting the audience with his showmanship.
