Bio

Collectivity is exactly that. A collection of like minded artists coming togethe. Pulling from all possible resources, influences, and inspirations to create a genuine interaction. No one is excluded from collectivity, all parts are equal. This is real music improvised by real people. Promoters of self awareness and a higher conciousness.

The group has played along side many great artists. They're the primary backing band for Joye B. Moore, Anhayla, and several other artists. The outfit was a head turner on the Richmond JazzFest in 2011, performing two shows with Joye B. Moore and sharing the stage with Christian Mcbride, Aaron Neville, and Robin Thicke. They've also recently recorded a live album at Richmonds historic Jefferson Hotel. They perform at several local events and clubs including First Fridays, the Richmond Watermelon Festival, Cafe Diem, Popkins Tavern, Gibson's Grill and many more. Individually the members make their way by performing, studio work, and teaching with several local and national artists.

The core consists of Lamar Moore-Drums, Zion Charity-Bass, Ben Misterka-Guitars, Barry Reed Jr.-Keys

Horns: Kenneth Gill-Trombone, Stephen Cunningham-Trumpet

The sound is everything we dig. Heavy on the soul and funk of the 60's and 70's, concious hip hop and neo-soul, combining elements and positivity from the jam scene, with a backbone of trained jazz musicians. The compositions range from epic through composed peices to simple groovy riffed based tunes. There might be occasions of fun cover tunes, a random "I Want You Back" or "Sir Duke" may creep out in the middle of an eclectic jam. You could hear John Denver, Marvin Gaye, Biggie Smalls, The Beatles, or Beyonce at some point. Whatever the case the people will be grrinnin and gettin down.

Our main focus is that it feels good!

Peace
