"Palisade Teen Places Second in “Colorado You Got Talent”"

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- She may be only 17 years old, but Destinee Reed is proving that you're never too young to live out your dream.

“I’ve always loved music but I started singing when I was in sixth grade,” said Destinee.

Destinee placed second in the "Colorado You Got Talent" competition just one week ago, and is now getting ready to compete in front of “Americas Got Talent” judges.

“It was really fun,” said the Palisade teen. “It took a lot of work, but it was totally worth it in the end.”

For the aspiring vocalist, singing is more than just a hobby.

“I would love to be someone people could look up to,” said Destinee. “Have them think, yeah, I want to follow the steps that girl took.”

Her father, Ed, who is also both her manager and self-proclaimed “groupie,” says he couldn’t be more proud.

“Every kid out there has a talent, and that’s the teacher in me speaking,” said Ed Reed. “Ya know what, find out what that talent is and help your kid peruse it because there are so many things that are out there and it's been such a ride.”

But that's after she finishes up her homework because after all, she is still a student at both Central High School and Colorado Mesa University.

“I always find time for everything,” said Destinee. “Even when I am sitting at school and I don’t have anything to do, I will start playing the guitar and I will start signing.”

While also making the entire Grand Valley proud, as she makes a name for herself and shows America, she's got talent.

Destinee finds out soon when she’ll be performing in front of the "America’s Got Talent" judges.

If you want to hear her live, Destinee will be playing a free concert on Saturday, January 19th at Back Porch Music in Grand Junction. - by KREX News Room by John Dias Story Created: Jan 11, 2013 at 8:10 AM MDT
