Niceguy recently had a name change. The new band name is Colossick. With that being said, Colossick is; Tom Blair on lead vocals and guitar, Justin Whitley on bass and vocals, Maq Brown on guitar and vocals, and Jeremy Kidd on drums. Colossick is an Atlanta based band that recently sent us a press pack. Included was a 3 track CD that I wish to review for all you Incider fans.
I'd Rather: The song seems rather basic for the most part, with a few exceptions. The drummer is a skilled one. The drums are played with great finess and lots of depth while the guitars replay the same simplistic tune over and over for the first half of the song. The 2nd half of the song represents a better sound with more tone changes as well as a faster pace. Lots of heavy guitars and in your face drums, but the vocals don't shine as much.
Cut the Feature: This song begins with a lot more depth than the last track. It's a faster paced, edgier style song. A good tune is carried through out the song but the vocals fall short again. As strong as the guitar playing and drumming is the vocals have yet to stand on an equal platue.
Everything and More: Great tap foot head nodding style song. The beat is alive, the guitars heavy, and the drums scorching. The vocals run right in line with the rest of the elements and the feel of a great song is there. This is the song that stands out to me as a great track.
From this 3 song sampler I gather a few notable details. All the instrumentals are skillful and sizzling. Heavy riffs, distortion, and much energy are displayed in much of each song. The weak points I found are minimal, but include some vocal work and certain melodic failure in parts of songs 1 and 2. Those, though, are simply opinion. One person can like something that another person simply does not like. All in all this is a good band and with a lot of skill under its belt. If they stick it out and remain together there may be a bright future.

Colossick
They’re heavy, they’re aggressive, they’re uncompromising. They’re Colossick, and they’re ready to bring the pain. Hailing from the local Atlanta area, they’ve been working hard in the scene since 2004 under the former moniker Niceguy. Consisting of Tom Blair (lead vocals and lead guitar), Justin Whitley (backing vocals, bass) and Jeremy Kidd (percussion), their lineup was rounded out in late 2004 with the addition of Maq Brown (rhythm guitarist and “devil throat”), former guitarist for Revolver. Influences including Helmet, Sepultura and Black Label Society have helped shape their sound into their own special brand of heavy metal.
When asked what he thinks of the local hard rock/heavy metal scene, Maq replies with his own special brand of brutal honesty – “I think that it definitely has gone downhill, but with all the hard work that has come from the local rock/metal community recently with you guys (AtlantaRockShows.com), LLL (Local Love Loud), Aaron from the Buzz and many other organizations, it's starting to shine again!” When asked his thoughts on Atlanta being known more for its hip-hop scene, and if this may impact people’s perceptions of the local metal scene, he points out other metal acts from this area. “There are a lot of great local metal bands out there that are starting to shine though! Legion X, SMI, waited, and Threat Of Life are just a handful of the metal bands out here that are just fucking brutal as fuck and I know they will help us bring local metal to the forefront of the Atlanta scene! We all still have to work hard to get Atlanta back on track, especially in metal... Metal is the bastard son of rock, the son that the parents secretly wish they never had!”
Colossick has certainly had its share of accomplishments and contributions to the local metal scene. They participated in the Atlantis Music Conference in 2004 and 2005, and they made it to the semi-finals in The Emergenza International Band Competition. They contributed a song titled “Everything and More” for the independent movie The Delivery Boy Chronicles. They had the privilege of opening for national acts such as Ill Nino and Byzantine. “Byzantine at the Darkside was a huge show for me because I'm a really big fan of theirs,” Maq said. “The other guys did a show with them before I joined and they turned me on to them! They've asked us to open for them for their past three shows in Atlanta, which is a huge compliment!”
On the topic of The Darkside, he mentions how much he enjoys performing there. “Any show at The Darkside is gonna be a great show; that place treats every band that comes through there like rock gods! That place is fuckin’ immaculate! Even if the place was a shit hole it would still be the best place to play just because of the staff and professionalism. Other venues should go there and take some notes!”
They currently have an EP titled The Seed, and they are currently writing material for a full-length release. “We have been writing a lot of new material and are planning to start recording late summer for our first full length. We hope to have it out before winter. Right now we’ve just been trying to do as many shows as we can without overdoing it locally and doing as many out of state show as we can too! Our new manager, Tom Carling, has really been keeping us busy with shows. We're also trying to shop our EP around to certain labels.” But just because they’re heavy metal doesn’t mean there isn’t something for fans of something softer and more relaxed to latch onto. When asked where his love for heavy metal and music in general came from, Maq says, “I grew up listening to a lot of other stuff like Peter Gabriel, Dangerous Toys, Junkyard, Michael Jackson, Lynyrd Skynyrd and a lot of the 70's prog rock like King Crimson, Yes, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Genesis. In my late teens I really got into the Butthole Surfers, Helmet, Ministry, Misfits, Megadeth and Neurosis. The soundtrack to my life would be a fucked up album!”
With their list of accomplishments, passion for music and appreciation for the local scene, Colossick is certainly looking forward to a promising future. Come out to one of their high energy shows and get ready to find out why, “They’re so big, they’re sick!”

Discography
"The Seed" EP was released on December 2nd, 2005. It contains five tracks and one bonus tribal drum track that is unlisted. The bonus track was a special part of the recording process that the band wanted to include as part of the overall recording. Colossick has performed the tribal drum track in a special "drum line" performance three times in its career with the third time as a part of the "Crumble Down" music video shoot that took place in July of 2006 at the Darkside Club in Marietta Georgia.

Project 9-6-1 radio station on the "Project Homegrown" show hosted by Aaron Hickman. Aaron has been a huge supporter of Colossick and the Atlanta scene and has spun "Crumble Down" several times on his show. Tim Hurd from 91.1FM WREK has featured Colossick's music several times on the world famous "Wrekage" show. He has played "Crumble Down", "Save Yourself", and "Drawing the Nail" on several different occasions in support of promotion for the band's upcoming shows.

COLOSSICK is a four piece metal band from Atlanta Georgia determined to deliver the biggest and boldest sound to the masses as possible. This determination has stemmed from a history of pushing heavy music to the next level and striving for recognition, but never compromising integrity or overall attitude. COLOSSICK, a name derived from the Greek god of war “Colossus” mixed with the slang term “sick”, can be described as one huge wall of sound. Metal influences from the early ‘80’s to the present day have shaped the band into what has been revered as one of the loudest most energetic live bands on the regional music circuit. Atlanta Rock Shows.com states that COLOSSICK is “heavy, aggressive, and uncompromising.” Volume Magazine reported that “concrete riffs, gripping harmonics, bleeding feedback, and power grooves put COLOSSICK in the category of loud rock/metal band”, although, “if you like an exciting live show, you will enjoy a COLOSSICK performance regardless of your musical taste.” The band’s current lineup is Tom Blair, lead vocals and guitar, Justin Whitley, bass and backing vocals, Jeremy Kidd, drums and percussion, and Brock Hale, rhythm and lead guitars.
In 2004 the band was invited to attend The Atlanta Film Festival where a debut of the independent film, “The Delivery Boy Chronicles”, featured the band’s song “Everything and More” in the movie. Also that year the band had the chance to open for several national acts including Stuck Mojo, Six Feet Under, Byzantine, and Ill Nino. COLOSSICK has participated in several competitions and conferences such as the Atlantis Music Conference in 2004 - 2007, and the Emergenza International Band Competition in 2005, where COLOSSICK made it to the finals and was given the chance to perform at one of Atlanta’s biggest venues, EarthLink Live (now Center Stage). COLOSSICK also made it to the final round at the Sweetwater Showdown Competition in September of that same year. In 2007 COLOSSICK headlined the “Spreading The Seed” Tour and rather than entering competitions, took a different track and toured as much regionally as possible to promote the name.
Tom Blair of COLOSSICK recorded and produced the band’s debut E.P. entitled “The Seed”. This 5 song release has received much acclaim on the local and regional level. Southeast Performer Magazine in July of 2006 was one of the first to review it stating that the E.P. “brings huge guitars, vicious screams, and solid rhythm to the table”. The band has sold over 1000 copies of “The Seed” up and down the east coast over the last two years and west coast touring plans will be made after the official release of the band’s upcoming full length debut entitled “A King Is Born”. The band plans to release this in the spring of 2008 and follow it up with a promotional tour in the summer of 2008. The band takes care of its own artwork for the packaging, sets up its own tours, and is currently building the new studio where it will record the new full length. The band is always looking for opportunities to move ahead in the industry but also carries a sense of pride in accomplishing so much independently and working hard to obtain its goals.
The band, with the help of Marty P. and David Pampel, produced and released a full length COLOSSICK DVD entitled “THIS IS MY ATTITUDE…” which is a line from the song “Crumble Down”. It was released at the end of 2006, loaded with videos, interviews, behind-the-scenes footage of the band, and is a great way to get to know the band, its music, and check out the music video/mini movie for the song, “Crumble Down”. This release was a huge success for the band, and although never was distributed officially, it gets sold at all the shows and used as a successful promotional tool.
The band toured their asses off in 2007 to promote "The Seed" and "This Is My Attitude", with the intentions of recording later in the year. Studio construction started at the beginning of 2008 and the band began to lay tracks for their debut upcoming full length release entitled, "A King Is Born". The band plans to release their new material under their own label in the summer of 2008 and is currently searching for a distribution deal
COLOSSICK music can be heard on Atlanta’s WREK 91.1FM “Wreckage” metal show, as well as Macon GA’s Q106FM The Rock Station on their “Homegrown” show, and more recently on the “Project Homegrown” show on 96.1FM Project 9-6-1. The band has acquired sponsorships from No Fear and Jagermeister. The band is managed privately by Tom Carling in Atlanta with Carling Hill Management.
