Bio

From the outset, Colouring Lesson has always made music on their own terms. Not to be penned in by the usual rules and regulations of roots, reggae, or rock, Colouring Lesson blazed its own illustrious trail, creating a sound that bowed down to no one’s rulebook.

Armed with a solid first release, Menagerie, Colouring Lesson took to the road. It didn’t take long for the band to become known for their amazing live shows and infectious hooks, drawing comparisons to the energy of The Police and the musical integrity of The Clash. Radio began to recognize the power of Colouring Lesson as well, both nationally and internationally. The band’s first single “Mea Culpa Blues” made it onto the BBC Wales charts as “Screamer of the Week.” After years of constant touring and airplay, Colouring Lesson managed to garner itself a hardcore following.

Colouring Lesson’s sophomore release entitled Targets was a myriad of different approaches and really saw the band stretch out. Targets was an instant classic, with both fans and critics.

Colouring Lesson heavily toured in support of Targets. In addition to headlining their own shows and sharing bills with regional favorites, the band also opened for a diverse group of national acts such as Orgy, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmies Chicken Shack, 2 Skinnee Jays, Desmond Dekker, Placebo, and the Kottonmouth Kings. Colouring Lesson has also had the privilege to be one of the very few bands to have played the legendary HFStival three times, sharing the stage with a plethora of international, national, and regional acts.

After a brief hiatus, the band hit the scene with a sold-out reunion show in December 2004. The mandate was clear: Colouring Lesson was officially back. Having played a litany of sold out dates over the last 2 years, Colouring Lesson has hit the studio to document their most exciting material to date. A new 10 song album (tentatively titled *Asterisk*) with producer Steve Wright is underway and is slated for a late 2006 release.
Colouring Lesson is a sonic force to be reckoned with and a live experience never to be missed.
