Bio
Colton Dixon is a 19 year old who began his music career as a member of his churches youth praise band. Colton quickly formed his own band Messenger, where he was the lead singer, songwriter and keyboard player. His musical influences range from Chris Tomlin and Casting Crowns to Skillet and Switchfoot. Colton and Messenger played youth events and camps from Tennessee, Arkansas, and Florida ,gaining a large southeastern following. Playing mostly his original Christian rock along with covers. In 2009, the band played with Rick Heil and SonicFlood at Rocketown in Nashville for 88.7 Wayfm benefit. Colton and his band spent the next 18 months as youth leaders and band for New Vision Baptist in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Colton dissolved the band on the suggestion from American Idol season 10 after making it to Hollywood week. With little to no TV coverage Colton was able to acquire a substantial fan base, while making it into the top 40 on the show. No contestant in American Idol history has garnered more attention at this point in the competition. Within a week after leaving Idol Colton was in the studio hard at work on new music. The Ellen Degeneres show invited Colton on that next week to showcase his talent and give fans an idea of who he is. Colton describes himself in his road to Hollywood interview on American Idol as a Jesus Freak, wanting to be a role model for todays youth. He has not strayed from that vision and ability to witness through his heartfelt music. Coltons brand of faith based uplifting rock anthems to soulful ballads provides a great mix of unique sound that appeals to all ages and fans. Colton's stage presence along with his rocking piano skills make for a truly entertaining concert experience. Coltons mission statement is from John 13:16 "I tell you the truth servants are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message." For this reason he feels he is a messenger as is all the fans that support the ministry.
