"Colum Regan"

“Free flowing and accurate, stunning song structures” - Central Station Review

"PAVILLION FOLK SERIES SEES COLUM ATTRACT A YOUNGER AUDIENCE"

A new season of monthly folk concerts has started at The Stage Door in Porthcawl’s Grand Pavilion. First to perform was Colum Regan, Cork-born but resident since 1999, who has just embarked on a solo career.
Regulars at the Pavilion folk concert series noted that the average age of the audience had dropped about 20 years. Furthermore the gender bias had swung markedly towards the females.
Right from the start, it became obvious that that his solo career will showcase his versatility, because he sings in a variety of styles, with a voice that can handle gentle love songs to rousing anthems.
Colum is, of course half of the New Druids, where his partner, Kerry, does much of the singing. Certainly, anyone who saw them in action will be surprised what a strong voice Colum has.
In April he is making a start on his solo album, featuring in the main his own songs. On stage, he performs these with his guitar, or occasionally with just percussion.
He introduces one song, previously performed by Sinead O Connor, and his voice soars to a climax that brings a huge response from the audience.
After years working in different styles, including jazz and funk as well as folk – and in different countries – he is now focusing on his own material.
As an accomplished guitarist, with a great voice, he should quickly build up a following.

"WNTI New Jersey USA"

“Colum Regan is a brilliant singer/songwriter who has now embarked on a solo career and is eliciting positive responses whenever he plays. We are eagerly awaiting his solo CD hopefully to be out soon. Take a listen - you are sure to love what you hear.” - WNTI

"OUTSTANDING EAGERLY ANTICIPATED SOLO ALBUM *****"

Colum Regan, one half of New Druids, produces a fine example of what music should be all about. This is what there is a lack of at the moment. This is a heart-felt honest and diverse collection of songs which piece together beautifully to make a great album.

Colum reverts to his roots and heritage in songs like "Don't think about it" and "Letter from Canada", but flavours them with a modern edge that retains a contemporary feel.

Beautiful harmonies are provided by Kerry Sanson, best executed on "Love you Love" an amazing love song. Tracks like "Damage Control" and "Freewheeling" really help mix this album up and provide a harder edge.

If you like Damien Rice, David Grey, Tom McRae, David Kitt, Coldplay, Radiohead, then you will love this.

Favourite tracks : Damage Control, Freewheeling, Love you Love, Ruberboat

"Message, Colum Regan"

Colum Regan’s ‘Message’ delivers a jazzy upbeat gentle groove-laden track that sounds like it would be the perfect come down soundtrack for the late night ‘Beat Generation’ of 1950s New York.

"Senses Fly"

South Wales boasts many an inspirational musician and it appears the well is anything but dry. Colum picks up where the myriad of singer/songwriters have trodden before to deliver a new perspective via intimate themes allied to intricate harmonies, Your Voice being the prime example and deserving the widest audience possible. Colum also has a way with words and is clearly capable of penning a tune to twist the senses and leave you looking for more. Classy. - Musician Magazine, the musician's union

"Fizzy Knickers"

Colum Regan (Top track: Letting Go) – a man, a guitar and a dreamy voice that when your mum hears it she’ll get fizzy knickers; what more could you want?

- SENTRIC MUSIC

"Classy"

When I hear the music I think of the colour: yellows and oranges (no reason, just do!)
If they were a sweet: a classic, like Caramac, nice and smooth
Makes me dance the: foot-tap, with a little bit of some swaying and groovin'
Takes me to: a sunset beach party
Would open for: Gomez, John Mayer
In the scope of the universe, these guys get: a solar system and a half!
In other words: Two parts acoustic, one part funk, one part soul, and one part suave, this stuff is fab!

Colum's solo album GO reached the top 5 most downloaded on wippit.com and easymusic.com in it's first week of release and stayed there for 4 weeks. One of the songs from the album was a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. His songs are honest and direct with big melodic hooks and lyrics that stick in your heart and head. The energy and dynamics of his solo performances, are matched only by the full band gigs. Keys, saxophone, bass and drums make up the accompianment. There are elements of Folk, Jazz, and Blues in his music and comparisons have been as varied as Jeff Buckley, The Gobetweens, Paul Simon, and Peter Gabriel. He is no stranger to the big stage and has supported some major acts eg. Welsh singer Charlotte Church, Irish band The Frames and singer/songwriters Tom Baxter and Tom Pacheco and performed in some of the UK's and Ireland's major venues, eg. Shepherds Bush Empire, London and Whelans of Dublin. Sandout performances at the UK's most influential music conference,In The City, and the UK's biggest free Festival, The Big Weekend and well as other festival performances in 2007 have made sure that Colum Regan is the name on everybody's lips as the next emerging singer/songwriter in the UK.
