Comfort Food embraces and expands upon the jazz tradition, serving up a blend of jazz, world, blues, funk and new music that promises to feed the soul.


Defying Categorization, Comfort Food brings a fresh viewpoint to the jazz genre by combining influences from traditional and avante jazz, world music, funk and blues. Drawing from their collective performance experiences with major artists including Savion Glover, Ray Anderson, Oliver Lake, Tower of Power, Jon Lucien, Ben E. King, Kenny Wheeler, Steve Coleman, Marc Ribot, Jeff Newell, and Larry Coryell, the members of Comfort Food are equally at home whether swinging at a blistering pace, mixing up the meter or laying down a simmering groove. The band's original compositions reflect influences as diverse as jazz innovators like Eric Dolphy and Charles Mingus, giants of the tradition such as Pops Foster and Wayne Shorter, and contemporary artists including Stevie Wonder and Richard Bona.
Ben, Tricia, Gregory and Lee came together in 2006 to form an original collective project after hearing of one another through the grapevine and finally meeting through various performances with other groups. The band will be recording a new album in the summer of 2007.
