Commander Tang: Background
From diverse locations and varied musical styles comes Commander Tang, a solid guitar-bass-drums trio with a solid, forceful statement, and a big vocal presence.
A guitarist from Alabama, a drummer from Milwaukee and a bassist from Los Angeles living on the same block met through back yard hang-outs, unveiling shared musical passions and complimentary differences. Amps got moved, and drums set up in the archetypal womb of rock and roll: The basement.
Commander Tang is Bill Lorber, George Phillips, and Howard Bishop Ellis, all veterans of the Milwaukee and club and festival scene. The Commander Tang sound melds Folk Rock, Soul & R&B, and straight-on Power Pop.
They are former members of regional acts including Brother Louie, Womens Liberace, Tony Brown, Lake Effect, Take My Face, and The Vain Glorious.
Theyve appeared at Summerfest, Locust Street Festival, Brady Street Festival, Bay View Bash, and numerous club ands and music venues throughout Milwaukee, and the Midwest.
The Commander Tang sound melds Rock, Soul & R&B, and straight-on Power Pop.
