Bio
Throughout our adolescence to adulthood, God has seen fit to bless our family with the gifts and talents to share His love through music, and to share the testimony of our lives and heritage. Though it took many years of preparing us, like sending Brad to Belmont University in Nashville, TN, and Kerie to North Greenville College where she met her husband Josh, Common Destiny's piano player, to developing Jay’s amazing ability to make anyone laugh and feel like they are loved, God continues to take us on an amazing ride together. Josh has recently accepted the position of Associate Worship Pastor at First Baptist North Spartanburg but continues to perform with the group as God allows. Also, God has recently provided a wonderful percussionist in Travis Johnson. He has truly blessed us with his talents and spiritual gifts and has become our unofficial "adopted brother".
Unlike many families today, we can honestly say that we are where we are today due to the prayers and fruitfulness of the generations that have come before us. We lost our Granny Ethel several years ago, and up until that point we had never suffered a loss that great. At her funeral we learned another reason for the paths our lives had taken. When she was in her early 20’s, she felt a call on her life to be a missionary. She didn’t know how or if she would be able to go, she just knew she had the call. As time went by, money became scarce due to the Depression and the ability for her to go among the nations started to disappear. On the day that she felt she had to give up the call, she got on her knees before God and prayed that the generations to come through her would be able to go and do what she couldn’t do. Little did she know that over the next 80 years, she would continually see her prayer answered through the many family members who have served God all over the world. She may never have realized it until she got to Heaven, but her mission field reached far beyond the boundaries of Pelham, SC.
We may not choose the path that the Lord puts each of us on, but we do choose the depths to which we strive to fulfill His plan. Every time we step on stage or speak before a crowd, we are reminded of the huge responsibility we have to our Father and to the people that need to know Him and serve Him better. Through praise and worship, hymns, and various styles of music, Common Destiny is able to share the hope of Jesus Christ and encourage the sanctity of the family. We couldn’t be more grateful for the gift of music and ministry we have been given, and we pray that we will be able to share this gift with you if the Lord allows. After all, our Granny Ethel would expect nothing less.
