Bio
Common Ground started off as a jam session arranged by Vicki Haskins, the drummer for the group. Vicki had played in a blues group for several years, and had recently become involved with playing at the church she was attending. Just to see what would transpire, she invited Becky Futch, the worship leader / keyboard player from her church to meet Donnie and try some songs. The jam session went well, and plans were made to meet again. Common Ground was the result of that jam session and others that followed. The group decided on the name because of their varied backgrounds. They realized that their love of Christ was indeed their "Common Ground." Sandy Turner (bass guitar) , Josh Bryan (acoustic and electric guitar) and Christie Hamilton (background vocals) soon joined the band. Since that day, Common Ground has performed at many churches and events in South Georgia. However, their true ministry is to hurting people. Open Door Baptist Church, the church where the band serves as worship leaders, is very involved in ministry to recovering addicts, alcoholics and their families. Common Ground has become an important part of this ministry. Discovering what impact music can have in peoples lives, the group seeks to lead hurting people to discover and worship Jesus Christ. They lead praise and worship at Celebrate Recovery every week and have performed at treatment centers in Georgia. Lead singer Becky Futch writes much of the music the group performs. Drummer Vicki Haskins has also written some original music for the group, and the band also plays current Contemporary Christian songs. Common Grounds purpose is simple: to bring hope to a world that is in need.
