Bio

How does one keep singing a cappella after college? That is the question Common Sound founder Rebecca Corliss sought to answer towards the end of her Senior year at Boston University, in 2008. One day that Spring, a friend from her BU group, Chordially Yours, approached her and asked: "Why don't you start your own a cappella group?"

She did just that. 2 years later, while many groups of the Boston scene have barely gotten off the ground, Common Sound is alive and well. They've become a hit at Cambridge and Boston open mic nights, can be seen busking in Harvard Square semi-regularly, and has even been hired for corporate function or two. And the group started a new tradition last December: an annual Winter Concert that entertained a 100+ member audience in Brookline with holiday delight; a 2nd annual show is set for Winter '10 at a location TBA.

Common Sound's repertoire pulls from any and all sources, living up to their buzz word: eclectic. It's not uncommon to hear a Common Sound set that includes a timeless jazz standard, like "Lullaby of Birdland", a modern standard, like Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours", and indie pop, like Regina Spektor's "Hotel Song". They are currently working on new arrangements of songs by Sara Bareilles, Aqualung, and Sam and Dave.
