Biography

Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007; 16:11 (GMT) --

"Only the privileged few can say they've been at the controls of a flying Concorde - history (actually, the Museum of Flight down on Marginal Way) tells us there have been more U.S. astronauts than pilots of the permanently grounded supersonic airline fleet. Likewise, Concorde the band is helmed by a handful of elites: His Lordship Jack Durban (vox/guitars), Lady Starkat of West Durham (vox/keyboards), Duke Xavier of Barcelona (bass), Baron Buggy Sampson (guitar), and General Train (drums). On their debut album, Mess I'm Made Of, this uber-stylish ensemble - members resemble KGB agents, Eastern European femme fatales, and '70s porn stars - sounds as chic as it looks. Midnight guitar chords brush up against slinky bass lines, new-wavey synths, refined six-string melodies, and the scintillating vocal interplay between Durban and Starkat (think Billy Corgan romancing Saint Etienne's Sarah Cracknell) to swank, sexy ends..."

Lyrics

Be Told

Written By: Jack Durban/Xavier Garavito

I know what I want to be told
You don't ever want to be told
I know what I want to be told when I've been told

You know what it's like to be cold
I don't ever want to be held
You know you're killing everything that I've ever been told

I don't ever want to be found
Hit me, I'm never gonna calm down
I know what I want to be told when I've been told

But you left me many days ago
I was honest, I was needless

Wanted to see if I could not breathe now while under the sea
Wanted to see if I could not leave now while under the sea
Now my morning's broken
And now my blackbird has spoken

I know even if I fell down
Lie there, standing on my own ground
You know you've killed everything that I've ever been told

But you left me many days ago
I was honest, I was needless

Mona Lisa

Written By: Jack Durban/Xavier Garavito

Right brain's insane
Gonna use my left brain
And I know, I don't wanna be so proud
You don't have to be around when
I held you in place

It's all contained
Gonna use my head pain
And I know, I don't wanna be so proud
(but you are)
You don't have to be around but
You held me in pain

It's all her reign
Living in my guilt stains
And I know, I don't wanna be so proud
(in a lie)
You don't have to be around and
He used you in vain

Right brain's insane
Gonna use my left brain
And I know, I don't wanna be so proud
You don't have to be around and
I held you in place

Hooo, hooo
Like Mona Lisa
A masterpiece of...

A masterpiece of...

I wanted to, I want it to hurt
(And I need it)
I want it too, I want it to hurt

It's all contained
Gonna use my head pain
And I know, I don't wanna be so proud
You don't have to be around but
You call me again

Hooo, hooo
Like Mona Lisa
A masterpiece of...

You don't know this song
But I bet you wanna sing along
