"Washington Post"

3 singles from Confidence Man's first EP, My Favorite Ex, were editor's picks. The title track from the band's second EP, The Miracle of Modern Living, was selected as one of the best songs of 2003.   - Maria Villafana

"Album review"

A few weeks ago I received a CD called "The Miracle of Modern Living" from a local band called Confidence Man. Loaded with hard-rocking, hook-filled songs (not to mention lyrics that actually say something), the CD is a promising debut and Confidence Man certainly bears watching. In fact, you can watch and listen to the group when it plays the Laughing Lizard Lounge in Old Town on Friday, Dec. 5. I know the Laughing Lizard isn't as cool a venue as, say, the Black Cat or the Velvet Lounge, but if you're not worried about maintaining your indie/hipster cred, make the trip to Old Town for this show. - Washington Post

"Four Stars"

“[J]angly, frenetic guitar….The frantic pace and smart rapid fire vocals had me hitting repeat several times….There are several tracks that I’ll listen to over and over again. And the album as a whole is one I can spin without skipping any of the tracks. Recommended to those of you who enjoy frantic listens full of emotion and energy.” - SouthofMainstream.com

Discography

In February 2002, Confidence Man had gathered enough material for a 7-song EP, entitled, My Favorite Ex (MFX). Recorded at Cue Studios in Falls Church, Virginia, MFX was engineered and mixed by Harry Evans (Mr. Poole, Hot Buttered Elvis) and mastered by Doug Johnston. The band returned to Cue in spring 2003 to record its follow-up 9-song EP, The Miracle of Modern Living, available now for sale and streaming at www.confidenceman.com. Confidence Man songs have received airplay on DC 101, University of Maryland radio, and other stations.

Feeling a bit camera shy

Bio

On bass, a film school refugee obsessed by science and Monster Garage. Keeping the beat, an affable father of two who hits like an evil jazz robot. Playing his violet Strat, a grade school teacher whose strumming ranges from the libidinally punk to the tragically Spanish. Lastly, a bruising, writerly singer who projects a certain anguished glee. Fans suppose Confidence Man is influenced by the Replacements, the Pixies, Guided By Voices, liquid Prozac, Bass Ale, and other phenomena, but they’d rather think of their music as a tuneful product that is catchy without making you feel too dirty the next morning. Please listen and enjoy.
