Lyrics

That's The Way My Love Is

Written By: Connie Mims & Mark Beets

They’ve got some big trees in California
Branches stretching way up high, roots dug down and deep
I think it’s only fair that I should warn ya
When I gave my heart to you, I gave my heart for keeps

That’s the way my love is
Ever strong, ever true
That’s the way my love is
All I am, all for you
Until the sun burns out, the stars all fade away
Forever and a day
That’s the way my love is

I’ve never been one for cheap devotion
I’ve got to have a lifetime just to get it right
Together we’re like poetry in motion
I want to give you so much more, make you realize

That’s the way my love is
Ever strong, ever true
That’s the way my love is
All I am, all for you
Until the sun burns out, the stars all fade away
Forever and a day
That’s the way my love is

(Bridge)
And when the road gets dark and you don’t know where to turn
You will see my love light shining through

That’s the way my love is
Ever strong, ever true
That’s the way my love is
All I am, all for you
This love that God has blessed let no one take away
Forever and a day
That’s the way my love is

My Wedding Day

Written By: Connie Mims

MY WEDDING DAY

Daddy puts a penny in my shoe
Mama wraps her pearls around my neck
Granny says, “With one more pin I can make that veil stay on her head”,
I’ve got a golden band to give,
I’ve got an “I Do” to say,
It’s my wedding day.

My sister looks good in pink
My brother’s pulling at his tie
My cousin wants to lick the icing off the cake and so do I
I’ve got a lacy handkerchief wrapped around a rose bouquet
It’s my wedding day

Then I close my eyes, and go back in time to that tomboy in a tree
The one with bubble gum, a bicycle and a skinned-up knee
Then the music starts, the doors swing wide and there I see
That my childhood friend is now the man who wants to marry me

Mama cries a sweet goodbye as daddy gives his girl away
It’s my wedding day

Daddy puts a penny in my shoe…..

Anywhere My Heart Goes

ANYWHERE MY HEART GOES
(C. Mims) © Pandulce Music, BMI

After all the crying time is over
After that last goodbye is said
You won’t catch me looking over my shoulder
I might’ve lost in love, but I’m not dead

(Anywhere my heart goes) I’m gonna follow my heart where it leads me
(Anywhere my heart goes) I’m gonna keep on believing in love
(Anywhere my heart goes) I’m giving my heart some wings and let it go
No matter how long it takes me, no matter how far
I’ll go anywhere my heart goes

I’m not gonna sell myself in some want-ad
I’m not gonna troll for love in some bar
I’m not gonna fall in love with just anyone
I want to love someone for who they are

(Anywhere my heart goes) I’m gonna follow my heart where it leads me
(Anywhere my heart goes) I’m gonna keep on believing in love
(Anywhere my heart goes) I’m giving my heart some wings and let it go
No matter how long it takes me, no matter how far
Anywhere my heart goes

Maybe By Topeka

Written By: C. Mims/G. Payne

The girls at the office threw me a bash
We drank margaritas, got a card with some cash saying, “Bon Voyage, here’s something for a rainy day”
I guess the whole thing the last few years is the sofa, TV, baby, bring me a beer
I can’t live my life that way
And I just keep driving on, wonderin’ why I stayed so long
And I’m not sure just how I loved you so
Maybe, maybe, maybe by Topeka I’ll know

I priced all our stuff so it would sell, waved to the neighbors and I wished them well
So much for our happy home
I packed up the rest in my car, my granny square blanket, some coins in a jar
And photographs, oh, the stories that they could tell
And I just keep driving on, wonderin’ why I stayed so long
And I’m not sure just how I loved you so
Maybe, maybe, maybe by Topeka I’ll know

Living someone else’s dream is not the way it’s supposed to be
At least not for me
Heading into the big unknown is only scary when you’re going alone
I’ve got angels ridin’ here with me

I’ll pick up the interstate at the next right
Cryin’ and drivin’ and wonderin’ all night
Why can’t I get you off my mind
Maybe, maybe, maybe by Topeka I’ll know

The Same

Written By: Connie Mims

I could blame it on the rain; I could blame it on the weather
I could give you one more chance and keep this thing together
I keep looking back at yesterday instead of facing what is true

It’s time to give in, call for a truce
The more we try to change things, the more things stay the same
Let’s leave it alone, call it a day,
The more we try to change things,
The more things stay the same for you and me

I could keep an open mind and answer all your questions
But I don’t think I can handle any more of your suggestions
I keep trying to make sense of us
Now my back’s against the wall

It’s time to give in, call for a truce,
The more we try to change things,
The more things stay the same
Let’s leave it alone, call it a day,
The more we try to change things,
The more things stay the same for you and me

I won’t let you tell me how to feel
You can’t tell me how to live

So, it’s time to give in, call for a truce,
The more we try to change things,
The more things stay the same
Let’s leave it alone, call it a day,
The more we try to change things,
The more things stay the same for you and me

Go Deep

Written By: Connie Mims

Long boats rockin’ on the ocean
Soaking up the first few drops of light
Young boy diving in the water
Maybe today he’ll go where the big things swim

But he’s got to go deep, look beyond the surface
Go deep, find that higher purpose
In life, in love, in all that you dream of
Go deep

A young man graduates from college
Soaking up his last few drops of youth
He’s got some time, and a little more knowledge
Maybe today he’s gonna find a little truth

But he’s got to go deep, look beyond the surface
Go deep, find that higher purpose
In life, in love, in all that you dream of
Go deep

You don’t have to look too far
You just have to look inside exactly where you are

Wise man, sees a new horizon
Soaking up his golden years of life
He thinks it’s time now to change direction
Maybe today he’ll go where his big dreams swim

But he’s got to go deep, look beyond the surface
Go deep, find that higher purpose
In life, in love, in all that you dream of
Go deep
