Alexandria, VA, July 18, 2008 – Content Johnson (singer/songwriter/producer) has been creating quite a musical buzz on the web and as a local artist since the 2006 release of her trans-cultural debut album, Diasporan. Known for her diverse and soulful style, Ms. Johnson has been working to illuminate different forms of creative artistry often ignored in American entertainment – two such genres are soca and reggae music.

For the past 2 years, “Get Serious,” a lover’s rock song, has been ringing in the ears of local reggae lovers in the Washington Metropolitan Area. With the existence of hotspots like Adams Morgan, Ms. Johnson has been able to perform original music with local bands as well as continue to explore the diverse music of the Diaspora. However, as the lead singer for The Diasporan Band, she has been blessed to further develop her own creativity with talented and dedicated musicians.

By popular demand, “Get Serious” has been recorded and is now available to be shared with the world. Musicians featured on this single are: Chris Oliver (drums), James “CeeJay” Conte (bass), and Bishop Young (lead guitar). With the sultry voice of Ms. Johnson and the simplicity of the chorus, this catchy tune shows potential to be greatly embraced at home and abroad. Upon release, the song has already been requested for radio airplay in the UK and Africa.

Ms. Johnson, an African-American and Virginia native, fell in love with Caribbean culture and its music during her early adolescent years. While growing up with a best friend of Trinidadian descent, she learned a lot about the celebrations and festivals embedded in Caribbean culture as well as the music that accompanies it. For Carnival 2007, Content Johnson finally made a contribution to the soca and calypso scene with her two hot singles, “Carnival Inna America” and “Layover.” Also, for Carnival 2008, she released “Rock It,” a mid-tempo, soca single. Unsurprisingly, music for Carnival 2009 is already underway with “We Whinin” and “Bring Me.”

Content Johnson will be performing at various venues, nationally and internationally, secular and sacred, throughout the remainder of the year with one quite anticipated performance in Alexandria, VA for the release of her new album, Rhythmic Blues, in September 2008. The performance will include an 8-piece band and music, such as roots reggae, Afro-beat, gospel, calypso, classic soul, and neo-soul.

While putting the finishing touches on her sophomore album, Ms. Johnson is preparing to be in Jamaica (August 15-22, 2008) and finalizing plans for her upcoming play “Preachin’ Ain’t Easy” scheduled to premiere in February 2009.
