A stellar combination of driving, head nodding rock music with beautiful melodies, pleasing the ears of both indie snob elitist and the average music-loving layman.

Biography

Cool Hand Luke plays rock and roll the likes of which you have never heard before. Easily sidestepping exact musical labels, they combine driving, head nodding rock music with beautiful melodies, pleasing the ears of both indie snob elitist and the average music-loving layman. They have made a name for themselves with their intense, not to mention tight, live show, which has been known to consistently win over new crowds night after night.

The band started in the summer of 1998 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, when former guitar player, Jason Hammil and Mark Nicks decided to start a Christian punk band. The lineup was completed when a mutual friend introduced them to Brandon Morgan, and their sound evolved and matured into one that today is uniquely theirs. The band put out two independently released records, “So Far…” and “I Fought Against Myself”, and embarked on 8 tours, earning them the title of “Best Independent Band” from HM Magazine’s Readers Poll.

They signed with Floodgate Records (distributed via Word/ Warner Bros.) in 2002. Cool Hand Luke’s first effort with Floodgate Records is entitled “Wake Up O Sleeper”, recorded with producer Steve Hindalong (City on a Hill). This record represents a new and more focused direction of the band, where instead of merely capturing their live sound they sought to first create an amazing, good sounding record. This record also finds them adding various studio textures, such as piano and strings, to their already diverse sonic landscape.

Lyrically the band has chosen to wear their faith on their sleeves, citing numerous scripture references throughout the album. “I believe the Word of God is living, and if the Word of God is in our songs then our songs would be living too,” says Mark.

The future looks bright for Cool Hand Luke as they continue to grow and mature. With new guitarist, Chris Susi, the immediate future sees them touring and continuing to bring their music to their quickly growing fanbase.

Lyrics

This Is Love

Written By: Cool Hand Luke

Is this love
Or something to think of?

We fool ourselves for comfort
We’re swayed by every wind
And if this isn’t true love
Then we can just pretend
But what is love?

This is love
This is love
That you would die for me (John 15:13, Romans 5:8)

Is this real
Or something to feel?

Confused by our emotions
Confused by what we see
We trade in our patience
For false security
But is this love?

This is love
This is love
That you would die for me

When I’m falling down
When I’m falling down
You save me
You save me
When I’m falling down
When I’m falling down
You save me
You save me
This is how I know
What love is
And I’d die for this

One Time

Written By: Cool Hand Luke

Let me tell you what He did for me
With the weight of my worries tearing my sleeve
I cried to my Father, the end of all hope,
“Show me the rope, which way to go”
As I fell asleep He took away my worries
He picked me up and put me on His shoulders

I could see for miles
He showed me that the mountain I’m climbing
Is not a mountain at all
But a gentle slope leading home

There are mountains
towering ahead
He says to me, “These are mine,
Hold my hand you’ll be fine”

I could see for miles
He showed me that the mountain I’m climbing
Is not a mountain at all
But a gentle slope leading home

“The mountains are mine”
“The mountains are mine”
“The mountains are mine”
“The mountains are mine”

So Shall It Be

Written By: Cool Hand Luke

Stand and lift your heads
Redemption is drawing near (Luke 21:28)
The armies of heaven
Are riding in the air (Revelations 19:14)

Look into the clouds
Every eye will see
Christ coming down
So shall it be (Revelations 1:7)

Like lightning through the sky
Everyone will know (Matthew 24:27)
Jesus is alive
And reigns forevermore

Look into the clouds
Every eye will see
Christ coming down
So shall it be

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah

Praise be to the savior
Praise be to the king
Who conquered death and sorrow
And made our hearts to sing
