"CoPilot is "On the Move""

This trio fresh out of VCU's music program are more than prepared to bust out the funk for your listening pleasure. Having won the 2005 Rockitz/Mid-Atlantic Records Battle of the Bands, their wave of Funk/Jazz/Rock fusion has been gaining momentum as they continue to gig around, garnering some press attentionfor these hard-working musicians. Mixtures of fingerstyle, slap/pop and tap drive Derrick Englert's bass playing, which meshes tightly with Allen Sleeman's punchy rhythms and Chipp Corderman's downright dirty guitar licks. - Richmond Times Dispatch

"CoPilot "On the Move""

Who's got the funk? They got the funk. These jive-ass brothers brought me straight back to the early 70's with their sly talk. Funkalicious and nutritious, you got a lot wrapped up inside this biscuit. If you own a late model convertible, this CD might be for you. If you consider the metallic color scheme when picking out dresses or wear catsuits, or carry a cane then this CD is for you. In fact as long as you got soul brother, then these cats will be ok by you.

"CoPilot at Emilio's Tapas Bar"

May 27, 2006

The members of Co-Pilot met as music majors at VCU and started playing together in 2003. Mixing covers and originals, the trio's sound recalls the early funk of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Last year, they won the "Battle of the Bands" contest at the now-defunct Potter's Pub. 10 p.m. $5. –Caine O’Rear

Bio

CoPilot's funk rock sound began through a love of a variety of musical styles. The band cites musical influences from Prince to John Coltrane to The Red Hot Chili Peppers. By incorporating their many different tastes Chipp Corderman, Derrick Englert and Allen Sleeman have created a sound uniquely their own. Their first album contains 12 songs, each one a distinctive blend of rock and funk. During their live performances they incorporate their original work with an eclectic blend of cover songs. Their covers include music from Bob Marley, Bill Withers, Jimi Hendrix, Parliament, Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Brown, Prince, Wild Cherry, Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone, Edgar Winter, Joe Cocker, and Eric Clapton.

The band started in 2003 in Richmond, Virginia by Chipp Corderman, Derrick Englert and Allen Sleeman. The guys met at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond where all three majored in music. CoPilots members grew up all over the state of Virginia; Chipp hails from Fredericksburg and Derrick from Virginia Beach, while Allen remains a true Richmond native. Their different hometowns have created opportunities to play all over the state and have helped them develop a statewide fan base.
