"Copperfox: "From the Den" Review"

"Copperfox are a lovely duo whom weave delicate melodies around lead vocalists Lisa’s soft hushed vocals. Opener “James” shows perfectly how the duo use their guitars, bass and drum loops to create a wonderful swinging bliss, especially in the second half of the track where the song starts to dissipate into echoes. It’s thoughtful and emotive. “Lover” continues the trend with its whiny almost country-esque guitar warbles. The closest I can really place Copperfox to in my musical collection is Tanya Donnelly. It’s like grown up thought provoking country tinged rock for the masses. “We Know” continues the acoustic roots of the rock and their penchant for changing up the drums. It’s a bit more rockier in the choruses and there’s an excellent use of xylophone too. In fact using tuned percussion is something the duo do well as shown in “Be Careful”, the closing track. It’s certainly the slow track on the EP and the most folksy. What I find wonderful is that..." - Higher Plain Music

"Portland duo Copperfox are readying the follow-up to their delightful, sleekly country-ish From the Den EP (below), so we fired some questions over to lead singer Lisa Garcia to find out a little bit more about the whole operation..." - Rock Sucker

"Copperfox Joins IAMPR"

"So excited to say that recently we have just brought on CopperFox, an indie rock vs country alternative band that is amazing! We spent some time listening to their EP in our offices, and we have to say it’s amazing to say the least! We’re really into “James” from their “From The Den” EP! A bit of info about CopperFox : Copperfox is Rory Mohon and Lisa Garcia of Portland, Oregon. Together they blend delicately crafted melodies, soft vocals and thoughtful chord structures. The end result is a moody mix of sweetly seductive sounds and stories. They are currently working on their second e.p. Check them out on their blog : http://copperfoxmusic.com" - IAMPRAgency

"Artist Feature: Copperfox"

"The name Copperfox reminds me of the crisp, fall breeze on an autumn day. They are a duo, with one man and one woman; it is noted that she sings and he writes. The duo are made up of Rory Mohon and Lisa Garcia. Copperfox is a Portland, Oregon based band who have recently joined a high-profile public relation firm, I AM PR Agency, founded by Olivia DiKambi. In one of I AM PR’s e-mail blasts, they were featured, and I listened to their music, which had me quickly intrigued. Their current EP, From The Den, features four singular gems with a mix of alternative and country, with a few pop chords. Garcia has a very soft, yet a light, seductive voice. Her vocals blend very well with Mohon, as they balance each other nicely, although Lisa does most of the singing, Rory joins her when chorus vocals are needed to strengthen the intensity of the song, which is not often, but comes in at the right part. Copperfox are currently working on their second E.P." - Guitar Girl Magazine

"Copperfox: From the Den EP"

"Soaked in beauty and emotion, the From The Den EP from US band Copperfox, is a release which opens doors to imagination and passion with impactful charm. The duo of Rory Mohon and Lisa Garcia, who make up the band, create and weave an atmosphere of seduction upon the senses to leave one drenched in warmth and heart sourced evocation. There is little background at hand about the band from Portland, Oregon, but from the release it is clear to see in their twelve months or so since forming, the pair has honed their sound and craft into a thoughtful and imaginative conjuration of distinct expression and tender sounds for the fullest effect. The four tracks which make up From The Den are glorious enveloping creations which deeply immerse the listener in ambience and emotion. Their touch is gentle but full, a mesmerism which lingers long after their final wave of notes. Mohon and Garcia blend a provocative mix of alternative indie pop with a smell of country and scent of folk..." - RingMaster Reviews

"Copperfox are our ‘One To Watch’ this week… listen here"

"The slightly alternative appearances of US bands like .Fun and Karmin have seen them conquer the world with great success in the past few months of 2012. Rory Mohon and Lisa Garcia are a Portland, Oregon based duo better known as Copperfox and set to follow in their colleagues foot steps with their mesmerizing alternative indie pop. With clear roles in the band, he likes to play and she likes to sing, Copperfox have got their first EP available on Itunes which is called ‘From the Den’. Its four high quality tracks proof what a great potential this duo has to go big. Think bitter sweet melodies, haunting vocals and a wink of Angus and Julia Stone, and you’ll get Copperfox. Well worth the listen, especially the tracks ‘James’ and ‘We Know’. Plenty of reason in other words to crown Copperfox as our One To Watch this week." - Glo Pop

"New Music: "From the Den" by Copperfox"

"...Copperfox have the rather distinct and uncommon genre blend of indie rock and alt. country. The combination makes for music as dark and ethereal as the forests of Oregon; rhythm grounded in crisp drums and brittle clean guitar while twangy slide guitar creeps in and out of nowhere. All four of From the Den‘s tracks share a level of intricate songcraft, which only strengthens their wilderness appeal. Add in a mix that gives everything room to breathe (plus a little bit of reverb), and it makes for immersing music..." - Ranting about Music

"Copperfox's "From the Den""

"This is a four-song EP from a (yet again) Portland, Oregon duo. As they themselves say, she likes to sing, he likes to play. Her vocals carry the songs, while the arrangements are sparse and dramatic. There is a steadiness to the music, but with enough open space for some subtle dramatic tension to creep in. "Lover" had the most accessible pop feel to it, although all four songs had solid melodies. The dreampop style mostly works here, with traces of Americana as well. I will need to hear more to see what their full capabilities are and how their personal styles fully develop, but this is a nice starting point. They have hit the ground running and are headed back to the studio to record many more songs. So give this a listen and stay tuned." - DC Rock Live

"Interview with Copperfox"

"Copperfox is a wonderful indie alternative band from Portland, Oregon, consisting of Lisa Garcia and Rory Mohon. "Interview: Copperfox"

"Copperfox is Lisa Garcia and Rory Mohon, a Portland-based duo who make lush, meticulous country-rock that seems grown from the same cool earth as the woods of the Pacific Northwest. The four songs that make up their first release, From the Den, boast an impressive polish; the simple, sweet love songs are drenched in big sounds and surprises. Lisa’s honey-like voice drips through each song, bringing Rory’s lyrics to life amid pianos, slide guitars, and ghostly reverb. The songs take their time, particularly the closing track “Be Careful,” which stretches out and takes a few detours until fading quietly back into the trees. And the quiet, loping “James” finds the band cautiously setting the table before opening up on “Lovers.” There’s a warmth and earnestness in their songs, thanks in large part to the obvious chemistry between the two, which lends the record some much needed weight. They sound mature yet untested, and certainly capable of great things..." - Indie Mine

"Copperfox"

"An evocative and slightly haunting sound emerges from the speakers driven by an entrancing vocal, whilst the music floats like a mist shrouding the effect in a mesmerizing construction. This isn’t an arena in which I naturally gravitate, but I find myself strangely drawn in to the sound and enchanted by a highly capable duo. The musical description is far more alternative indie than country, although there are some distinctive references in the spine of the compositions. The well written material has much going for it and it will be interesting to see if they decide to stay as a duet or add a permanent line-up for the additional instrumentation." - Indie Blog

"The Portland Bazaar: Live Music Schedule"

Copperfox is the talented duo of Lisa Garcia and Rory Mohon. After meeting on the island of Maui in 2008, they discovered a shared love of the arts (Lisa with etchings and Rory with guitar) and returned to the mainland to form their own creative endeavor. Their recently released EP, From The Den, is full of gorgeous songs that showcase Lisa’s hauntingly beautiful voice. This music is perfect for relaxing on a cold winter day or taking a long drive up the coast. I can’t wait to see them perform live. - Design*Sponge

"Copperfox"

Copperfox aren’t wild. They’re honest, and they open up slow. Their rebellion lies in the haunt of serious, gentle melodies and quiet adoration. Welcome to their world of two, where soft country elegance meets a fondness that is palpable, honey deep. Love is here; take a listen.

The hush-hush project of a petite, indelible duo, Copperfox consists of two lovers full up on heart and soul. Lisa Garcia and Rory Mohon first began to tickle their musical future together on the island of Maui back in 2008, where jobless, they sought comfort in the separate realms of their own creative outlets – Lisa with her etchings and Rory with his guitar. That is until Rory needed a voice.

Once back on the mainland, it took the Washington-Oregon border between them, plus some good strong drinks and a lonesome, heartsick home, for Lisa to come to terms with the fact that she was that voice. Since then, a band of believers was formed, and a record made. Songs off their soft-hearted, meticulously crafted EP, From the Den, began trickling out of their love nest in Spring 2011. And like the sly creature that is the tiniest of canines, Copperfox are finally ready to play outside. See them perform live, for the very first time, at the Portland Bazaar on Sunday, December 11th at 4pm. - Morgan Brothers - The Deli Magazine

Bio

This band, fronted by Rory Mohon and Lisa Garcia is actually a collaboration of five experienced musicians based in Nashville, TN. This is the band we've always wanted to be in, and although our music can be described as Indie-Alternative, we'd like to think that it is really a mix of everything we've studied and progressed in over the last 8 years.
