"SAINT LOUIS LIKES IT DIRTY"

There’s something magnetic about a raw dirty rock show, and our hometown boys in Copperview serve it up extra filthy when they hit the stage. The local rock station KSHE christened them a rebel child of “Buckcherry meets Guns & Roses,” and they do a damn good job of toeing up to these two heavy hitters. The five piece just returned from a stint of dates in the south and played to a hometown crowd Wednesday night as they kicked off the Playbackstl festival. Lead singer Samuel Baker took the stage and quickly built an undeniable connection with the audience. His lyrics were clever and clearly very personal, as you see how much passion he put into his deliverance on stage. Flanking the singer is Toby Picker, a lanky blond who cranked out vicious blues riffs all night long.

Copperview has defined their sound as one that marries dirty blues with catchy hook-ridden rock. As they slammed through their set, the drummer was licking his sticks, and the singer was spraying water from the stage early in the night. The show only seemed to intensify as it matured, and crowd had no problem getting rowdy with the rebel rockers. The act cranked out their radio single “Yesterday,” a powerful rock song with an incredible hook, and the fans willingly sing along. As the band breaks into, “Troublesome,” Baker tells the crowd, “This is a song about getting f*cked over!,” and leaps from atop the bass drum. This witty medley seems to be quite a turning point in the set as the band somehow manages to up the energy level again and the crowd follows. By the wrap of the set, the sweat soaked five piece is grinning and reaching out to frenzied fans in the front row. Not a bad damn show for a Wednesday night in the Lou, I must say.

Many argue that the Saint Louis music scene is struggling to stay afloat due to a lack of talent. Yet, locals like Copperview are clear evidence that Saint Louis has not been spared the cream of the musical crop. Bringing energy, sweat, and passion back to the stage, you'll feel like your back in the days where a rock show was the last place you'd send your virgin daughter. Their lyrics touch on sentiments of betrayal, fighting fair, and personal growth, all blended with a lil’ Jack Daniels, infidelity, and a mouth you wouldn’t wanna kiss your mother with. Saying all the things you wish you were liquored up enough to say, Copperview will give you the best bang for your buck, as well as a great excuse to act a little bit out of line.
