"Coppola - Cut The Ropes"

Coppola – Cut The Ropes
Release Date: April 10 2011
Rating: 9/10

As far as solid first impressions go, Coppola’s debut single ‘Cut The Ropes’ hits the nail on the head. Tremendously ticking all the boxes, the song is memorable, well-structured both musically and lyrically, and leaves you eager to hear more material.

The four-minute track, which has received over a thousand plays on the band’s Facebook, sees the Swansea quartet showcase their marvellously mellow sound.

Combining soaring vocals and melodies with intricate instrumentals, the tune is powerful, passionate and incredibly promising.

It’s a strong and superb start for the local lads and is hopefully just a taste of what’s to come. - Kate Rees

"Introducing...Coppola"

They might only have one song to their name, but that hasn’t stopped Swansea-based Coppola, who are yet to grace the stage, from building up a solid fanbase.

Despite their lack of material the local band, who formed last August, have acquired a strong online presence, garnering over 750 Facebook likes and more than 1,000 plays of their debut single.

“It has been amazing, we couldn’t have asked for more,” enthuses guitarist and vocalist Damian ‘Damo’ Morgan on their impressive accomplishment.

“We owe so much to our listeners already, for a band that hasn’t even played a gig yet to get as many plays/downloads [as] we have, it really is special.

“We aim to have a strong relationship with our listeners and hopefully repay their support in us as we progress,” he adds.

Influenced by acts such as Circa Survive and Thrice, the quartet, whose line-up is completed by Rhys King (guitar/vocals), Orhan Aydin (bass) and Rhys ‘Rico’ Morgan (drums/vocals), look set to stick to their promises in the near future with shows, a new song and a potential record in mind.

“We will be setting to work on getting a new single out to release over the next few months,” reveals Orhan.

“We have been working on an album, some of the tracks will be included in our live set.

“We can’t give too much away other than it is coming along nicely and it is a concept album,” he continues.

“We are going to be playing our first few gigs in July at some point (if all goes to plan), so we will be gigging as much as possible from then on,” offers guitarist Rhys.

“After working on these songs in our bedrooms it will be nice to finally get to show people the rest of our music and get face to face with our listeners,” explains ‘Rico’.

“Once we start gigging it is onward and upwards, we plan to take this journey as far as it will go,” the drummer concludes.

Until then, the group, who describe their sound as an ‘alternative, progressive, post-rock, jazz [and] pop fusion’, encourage you to take advantage of their free download ‘Cut The Ropes’, spread the word and continue to support them online. - Kate Rees
