Cordelia Gartside

Cordelia Gartside

BandFolkAcoustic

I'd identify my music as mainly folk based and influenced, with a heavy emphasis on metaphors surrounding the sea. I accompany myself on acoustic guitar but occasionally play with a cellist. I'm a sucker for lots of good harmonies, and try and put them in as much of my recorded music as I can.

Biography

Having grown up on a mixed musical diet ranging from Beethoven and Brahms to Simon & Garfunkel and the Beatles, Cordelia Gartside's musical tastes have been wide from an early age. With a blend of folk melodies and ambiguous lyrics, Cordelia’s haunting voice and songwriting style is intimate yet compelling.

Born and raised in Brighton, much of Cordelia’s music is influenced by a lifetime spent near to the sea, and a love of mythology imbues her songs with a poetic resonance.

A newly completed 4 track Debut EP 'Setting North' made with producer Tim Bidwell (Kate Walsh, Peggy Sue, Fink), showcases her inspiring talent for songwriting and creates the perfect canvas for her exquisite and effortless voice.

Firing Line

Written By: Cordelia Gartside

Come on darling, it is time,
Keep that smile on, tell me you're fine,
And as we walk that final stretch
The rain on my cheeks feels like lead.

Just hold me for the last time,
And brace yourself for the firing line.

Keep your heart, keep this in mind:
That balcony in springtime
Oh in that air I could have flown
To finally have you alone.

Oh and I miss your skin, I miss you still
I recall those fireworks on that hill.
And they never thought we'd end up here,
But your breath so close brings me to tears.

You and I have seen such times,
Hazed like summer, sweet as wine.
And as the seasons turn and break,
We'll shed the love we sought to make.

Just hold me for the last time,
And brace yourself for the firing line.

Just hold me for the last time,
And brace yourself for the firing line.

Setting North

Written By: Cordelia Gartside

As the autumn catches the streets,
I feel a sadness like the sea.
I can't explain it,
Can't explain it.

We'd run through rivers by the dam,
All hopeful heads and hand in hand,
Gilded silver,
Dressed in lavender

But I have slept,
I have kept my promises.
I have wept,
I have let my lover go.

But do I want my home,
And all I really know?
You pick up the phone,
Aren't we alone?

I took the stillness of the night,
And kept it here and set it to rights,
I belong here,
I belong here.

I belong here,
I belong here.

Sirens

Written By: Cordelia Gartside

Oh one day we will both be fine,
And I'll sing of the years that made up this time,
And as the autumn passes by
I will leave the sea in sounder mind.

I recall those hopeless nights,
When I dreamed of blue sails passing by,
We'll have time again for fear
Because you were all I had my dear.

Oh I loved you,
Oh I loved you,
And we must be sinking far too deep
For these ropes of theirs to ever reach.

I won't care if you speak to her
About all those things we murmured,
You may give her time, but give me
The tide where we found our demise.

Oh I loved you,
Oh I loved you,
And we must be sinking far too deep
For these ropes of theirs to ever reach.

Oh I loved you,
Oh I loved you,
But the voices fade like siren calls
And I'm left with only words and only walls.
