"Exclusive Interview: CoreyDreamz"

StreetWave Media presents an exclusive interview hip hop artist, CoreyDreamz from West Virginia. After our interview, check out his music video linked below…

1. What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

I started writing songs when I was 8 just for fun but when I met my best friend in college he had big ties in the music industry. He liked my work and his uncle said I should go for it so I did.

2. What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

I can change my voice to where it doesn’t even sound like me. One song that hasn’t been released yet, I purposely yelled until I lost my voice and recorded a song the next day with a deeper raspy voice. I don’t shy away from sounding different and exploring outside of my comfort zone.

3. If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?

Bruno Mars for sure, that dude has mad talent.

4. What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?

An advantage is I can still do what I want and explore new sounds. A disadvantage is that everything is self-funded and people don’t realize how expensive it can be to make a project.

5. Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?

At this point in my career I’d want to sign a major deal. I’ve done a lot as an independent artist and made a lot of connections but I feel I’ve gotten the foundation I needed to be successful regardless.

6. Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

I would say my latest release Whats Up because its been out for 9 weeks and has been on the Top 150 Global Radio Charts since its release.

7. Do you miss the era of CD sales OR do you prefer the new wave of music streaming? Explain…

I definitely miss the CD sales era, even though I wasn’t doing music I know there was more money to be made off sales back then. I’m friends with a few huge artists from the early 2000s, that I used to bump their CDs in my room and we’ve had some discussions about CD sales vs. streaming and they said the money was so different back then.

8. Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

No question, performing live. I love seeing the crowd, performing, meeting people at the meet and greets and just the whole atmosphere.

9. During your entire journey through the music business, what would you consider your Worst experience?

I would say starting 2020 off strong then everything being shut down, which put my shows on halt.

10. What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

I think hearing my song on the radio for the first time. I was just like dang that’s me?

Crazy, it was crazy and to have my family tell me they were proud felt good.

11. If any, what discourages you the most about the music industry these days?

Probably how the streaming apps pay artists per stream, honestly it’s crazy low.

12. What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?

Music is always changing and you can make your own path to success.

13. If you weren’t in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?

I’d be coaching football. I wanted to do it since I was a kid and still may coach one day.

14. In your own opinion, What is the current music scene like in your local area?

It’s definitely more EDM/house music, people where I’m at like to vibe which is cool.

15. What is your latest release and where fans can find it?

“Whats Up” and you can find out on all major platforms. Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Lum, YouTube, etc.

16. What is on your agenda or what can fans expect to see from you in 2020?

I’ll be releasing two albums this year and a number of videos. Once, venues start really opening back up I’ll be doing shows again and getting back to planning the tour.

"CoreyDreamz Knows The Sacrifice A Music Career Requires"

Skilly: Tell us where this all began. What is your history in the music scene?
CoreyDreamz: I started writing music when I was in 3rd grade, but wouldn’t let anyone hear any songs until I wrote my first single “Freshman Orientation.” I have two singles, “Cali Girl” and “Faded,” playing on radio stations all over the US and Canada.

What are the best ways to promote yourself as an artist? Any tips you can give us?
My best tip is to never give up, even when some people are skeptical of your success just focus on what you want to do and accomplish your goals.

What do you ultimately want to become in your career?
I want to be a role model, successful, and someone to prove that anything is possible through hard work and dedication. Being recognized in public, signing autographs, and taking pictures with people is cool but it’s the look on people’s faces when they meet me that makes me want to keep getting bigger.

What is the hardest thing about being in the music business?
Time is definitely a hard part about the music business because time is precious and music is demanding. I always have something to do music wise and not much free time. Friends will ask if I want to hangout, go to the movies, or something but I’m always in the studio recording or working on new material.

What is it like in your city? What is the music scene like, and how is it like living there overall?
I live in Huntington, WV with a population of around 48,000. It’s a city filled with history and a place where most people know each other. The music scene for hip hop here is pretty nonexistent because there’s no venues to perform at. It’s definitely hard to get heard in the city but it doesn’t stop me from doing what I love.

What are some of advice you can give and share to other artists who are still trying to come up?
Never let anyone tell you that you can’t succeed. You can do anything you set your mind to with hard work. Keep making the music you love and you’ll be successful. Not everyone is going to like your music, you just have to look past those opinions and not let them get to you.

What is the best thing that’s ever happened in your career?
Hearing my song on the radio for the first time was probably the best thing because I never thought it would happen. I grew up listening to music on the radio every day, so hearing myself was shocking but also rewarding. Seeing that my hard work was starting to pay off made me push harder.

What is your inspiration?
I’d have to say my biggest inspiration is my exes. I learn something from every relationship and always write my best songs after a break up. I’m also very inspired by females in general. Most of my songs are me talking about a female in different ways, usually describing their beauty and body motions that as a guy’s perspective we find attractive.

Do you feel anyone can be successful now in today’s world of music?
I think so, yeah. As long as you never give up and are able to push through the criticism, I feel you can do anything you want with music. So many people nowadays turn to music for different things whether it’s for emotional reasons, cruising on road trips, or just sitting around the house. Music is used in everyday life. -
