Bio

Music Biography

Cornelius MD has varied experience in the music industry. As a young man growing up in Gary, Indiana, Cornelius was active in the boys glee club, mixed chorus and the barber shop quartet at Gary Roosevelt High School.

While at Gary Roosevelt High School, he excelled in basketball and was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. However, his love for music could not be ignored and he became eager to continue his music career. Cornelius was inspired and influenced by the late, great Barry White, unmistakably Lou Rawls and Melvin Franklin of the Temptations.

Recognized as a gifted baritone vocalist in his own right, Cornelius was sought after by many vocal groups. He eventually became a member of The Exquisites. The group later disbanded and Cornelius took this opportunity to launch his career as a solo artist and formed The Loose Booty Rhythm Section. This group, too disbanded to pursue separate careers.

Cornelius persisted and started a new band. As fate might have it the new band acquired its name quite by accident. While rehearsing one day, a Bible fell from a piano and landed on the floor open to Acts 10-1. In this passage, the Bible spoke of a man named Cornelius who led a band of Italian rebels. Needless, to say the new band was destined to be named Cornelius and the Italian Band.

In time, Cornelius gained the respect of others in the industry who gave him the name “MD”--short for Music Doctor. Cornelius MD became known for his ability to bring out the musical best in others. A writer, arranger and producer Cornelius MD worked as musical director for Jerry Jones’ play, The Inquest of Sam Cook. He colloborated with vocalist, Shorty of the well-known rap group Lynch Mob and worked as road manager for gospel artist, Douglas Miller. During this time, Cornelius MD decided to change the name of his band to Cornelius MD and the MD band. The band traveled throughout the Midwest, the South and the West Coast promoting the single, “Anyway You Want It” written and arranged by Cornelius MD.

During the course of his vocal career, Cornelius MD has worked with three independent music labels: RMR of Philadelphia, Third Coast Records of Dallas Texas and FAVRS Records of Pomona, California.

Cornelius MD and the MD band have opened for some of the best Rhythm and Blues artists in the industry. Entertainers such as: Johnny Taylor, Cuba Gooding’s Main Ingredient, The Dramatics, The Delphonics, The Dells, and The Chi-Lites.

Cornelius MD resides in Atlanta Georgia were he is performing live, working with Earfull Records on his new CD, and pursuing career opportunities throughout the United States and abroad.
