"QuickLaunch Song Contest Review Form"

Overall Rating ***

Overall impression: “Where Do We Begin” by Corona of the Sun shows serious song writing and musicianship skills. The song could benefit from a better recording.

How the song would work for Film & TV: The song, with a more professional recording could be placed over film or movie closing credits.

Chord choice: The chord structure is nice and fits the genre. The bridge chords are a great contrast.

Lyrics: The lyrics are a bit buried and should be more out front, especially since the vocals are very strong. It may be a good idea to develop more of a hook to reel the audience in.

Song Structure: The song structure is OK although the song seems to end suddenly.

Memorability:
The melody, especially on “where do we begin” is very memorable and drives the song.

Recording:
Overall could use a more professional quality recording. Intro Guitar is a bit out of tune. Vocals sound great. Fuzz guitar is a bit too high in the mix.

Bio

Corona of the Sun is an up and coming band from Troy, NY. This Rock/Grunge/Funk/Classic Rock band has a unique sound and its influences include Pearl Jam, The Who and Led Zeppelin, with their music ranging from the softness of “Better Man” to the crunch of “All Along the Watchtower”. Their sound can be described as a mixture of Audioslave with the mind-blowing energy of The Who and a dash of Cream.

Corona of the Sun is currently working to expose its infectious sound to the rest of the world. Their sound may appeal mainly to the college crowd, but their lyrics can appease any generation. They were voted to be the best band that Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has to offer after winning the 2005 Final Battle of the Bands. They have also performed at numerous RPI events as well as other New York venues such as Troy, Albany, and Oneonta.

This close-knit group formed more than two years ago when Mike (lead guitarist) and Raj (drummer) met at a poker game. Soon after, Jefim (lead vocalist) joined after being approached by the Mike at a fraternity meeting. After a few failed bassists, Jeremy would join the band, who is also in the same fraternity as Mike and Jefim. You almost always see these guys hang out whether playing poker or trying to start massive pig piles on each other.

They recently released their debut album titled Beyond That Dimming Horizon with 10 original songs. They also cover a vast range of artists such as Led Zeppelin and The Ramones as well as some from today including U2 and Weezer.
