"Center Stage: Cory Atkinson Band"

The Cory Atkinson Band stepped into Chicago’s country music family to spread the gospel of Honky Tonk, with lively and good-timing shows across town and the surrounding areas. Blending tight vocal harmonies, telecaster twang, and swinging rhythms, CAB gets audiences off their barstools with a mix of familiar classics, catchy originals, and obscure covers you’ll want to seek out. CAB is equally at home in bars, clubs, restaurants, and street fests and has enjoyed warm welcomes at Fitzgerald’s, OAKtoberfest, Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest, and the Lincoln Square Summer Concert Series.

As a kid in Bedford, Texas, Cory Atkinson was ironically exposed to a dearth of country music. In fact, it was only after landing in Chicago as a vocal therapist that she found a soft spot for classic country music. And a soft spot melted into an outright obsession. Although her dream of becoming the fourth Dixie Chick never materialized, she has seen Coal Miner's Daughter about 1,000 times, and learned to play guitar not so long ago. So while her days are spent in a hospital speech clinic, by night she is a Honky Tonk girl, belting out dancehall favorites and original rockers on stages around Chicagoland. John Ballantyne is a full-blooded Scotsman and seasoned guitar picker, with skills in all manner of musical styles. He's seen all corners of the world from behind his telecaster, and occasionally some beer goggles. He's recently come into his own songwriting chops and gives Cory a run for the money at the microphone. Common musical tastes made for a natural musical partnership for John and Cory in 2006, and the rest is history.

As a working bassist in Chicago, Justin Loftus has been playing for 15 years with Country, Blues and Rock bands. Justin has enjoyed playing some of the top venues in the United States while sharing the stages with Junior Brown, Bonnie Raitt, Doug McDonald, Gretchen Wilson etc. It’s not unusual to find him playing in a Honkytonk or Juke joint one night and a Theatre the next.

Leslie Walle-Santos is a life-long Chicagoan who, despite quitting the drums after two lessons at age eight, has been ‘punishing the skins’ with rockabilly, rock, and alt country bands since the late 80’s. His adventures have included time with Stump the Host, The Andersons, Sweet Bridget, Kite Club, #1 Son, Rayflower, Matt and the Millionaires, Eric Lugosch, Rockin’ Billy And The Wild Coyotes, and The Long Gone Lonesome Boys.

Laura Walsh (harmony vocals) has had a passion for singing her entire life. Having been mostly rooted in pop and rock, she has enjoyed performing all genres of music over the years and is thrilled to be currently traveling the country roads with The Cory Atkinson Band!
