Cory Fernandez
Comedian
BIO
He goes by the name of Cory Fernandez. Hes bright 24 year old whose humor was developed on the streets of Brooklyn, New York. In just a year and a half of stand-up, Cory has excelled at a rapid rate.
Being a non-Spanish speaking Puerto Rican and living with my non-English speaking grandmother, you do a lot of staring! Cory said. When Im trying to come up with material, I like to observe my grandma. Shes not funny joke-wise, but, I guarantee you, she and her circle of friends are funny characters.
How did it all begin? Cory attended City University of New York where he studied audio engineering. Through college, he worked part-time at UPS where he liked to try out his jokes on his co-workers.
I was a pre-loader. I knew my job sucked when my Mexican co-worker quit! Cory says.
Cory began his professional stand-up career at the age of twenty-two when he met comedian/actor Donnell Rawlings. Donnell, who is a regular on Comedy Centrals Chappelles Show, introduced Cory to other fellow comedians on the New York Circuit. From that moment forward, Cory hit comedy clubs and colleges throughout the Tri-State area and never looked back.
In a short time, Cory has played the Clubs from New York to Los Angeles. This season, he appeared on BETs Coming To The Stage in which he made first runner-up. This was out of over one thousand comics who initially auditioned for the show from all over the country. He recently returned from a fifteen-city nation-wide Coming To The Stage Tour.
Laughter gives me a high; it makes me think of my mom. Shes never been easy to please, but, when you hear her laugh, theres no better reward.
